Changing plugs on 2004 Dolphin
I want to change the plugs, as I am not sure what condition they are in since we bought it used. What is the easiest access? The lower fender well has covers so it looks like the "doghouse" area may be best. Any suggestions? Thanks. 2004 Dolphin 5355

I jacked my front end all the way up and put stanchion jacks under the frame. Change through the wheel well. Need to take the ties off the fabric that hangs behind the wheels and replace the ties when finished.

I went thru the engine cover and put a piece of foam down to lay on and did it from above....it was pretty easy and comfortable.

The Pros will change the spark plugs through the wheel wells.
I've done it the othger way to "with" an audience and a box of bandaids.

On National RVs, the "Pros" will have to deal with the curtains that are installed on the sides of the engine. Since they are clip-tied to the frame, some creative destruction will result if you attempt the lateral approach. I think the "curtains" or shields or whatever you want to call them are why I have not had any plug wire heating issues nor recall hearing about other NRV owners having problems. The airflow is pretty well forced along the sides of the engine.
At any rate, not having a heavy jack and having to work while the coach was in a remote storage lot, diving from the top and doing all the work by feel was my option of necessity, not impossible, not particularly difficult. (I never dropped a part, so the profanity factor remained low.) A mirror and work light were invaluable.

If I may ask.How many miles do you have on your Motorhome and what made you decide to change the plugs other than not knowing their condition.

I did mine from the wheel well and it was pretty easy. The curtain referred to is held to the frame with plastic wire ties. Cut the ties on the bottom and lift the plastic curtain. The plugs will be right in front of you with fairly easy access. I lifted the front wheels off of the ground using the front jacks and turned the wheels for easier access. The hardest part is getting the plug wires off without breaking one. You might want to look at Oemy's website for more direction.

Thanks for the reply. I have 25,000 plus miles on the MH. Probably still in good shape, just curious as how they look.

Alleyman, If you are going to go through the trouble to pull the plugs - change them.
Have a couple of spare plug wires, you will at least break 1. (twist before pull) Also you will need some never seize for the plug threads. A little dielectric grease on the plug tip will also help.
Have fun!

FYI...
1) I do all my plug changing from the wheel well.
2) Follow my R&R guide on my web site R&R Plugs/Wires
3) I have plenty of "Workhorse" stock wires - for the cost of shipping only
