Chassis serial # location.

‘01 w-22 I’m looking for the workhorse placed serial #.
Dmv is sending someone out to verify information so it can be registered here in Al.
We have two stickers by driver seat and cabinet over sink.
Thanks
Keith.

The WCC chassis vin # should be on the "incomplete vehicle" label. It is the one begining with "5B4" and is a total of 17 characters.

The DMV is coming to you?! Holy cow, count your blessings!

That would never happen here in California.

Strange indeed. Guess it’s to keep out of state commercial vehicles from being registered as a RV.

State police or Sheriff does the inspection.

Yep, but they are asking for a riveted vin plate like a car.
INTERNATIONAL says they are stamped under the frame in front on chassis they made.
But I believe the 01 was made by gm.
Guess we’ll find out next week.

NOPE. Assuming the vin # begins with "5B4" which is the world identifyer code for WCC, your chassis is NOT a product of GM. WCC was created in 1999 when South American business man Andrew Tait (sp) purchased the Chevy chassis business from GM. He moved the production from Detroit to Union City IN. and chassis assembly begin there during the winter of 1999-2000, before the roof was completed on the new assembly building. Those UAW members must have been a hardy bunch.....

FWIW, I don't believe WCC ever used a "rivited" stamped metal plate, however, according to the WCC published Chassis Guide, the vin # is supposed to be stamped "on top of the RH frame rail behind the transmission" AND the "rear of right hand cylinder head" AND "the top of the transmission case". Of these three locations, I think only the cylinder head would still be visible (thru the doghouse) once the house was built on top of the chassis.
In case it may help you "prove" to the state officials the info they seek, if you will send me the last eight (8) digits ONLY, I will reply with a copy of the "build sheet" showing the full vin#, date of manufacture, and a listing of the major components used. edgray1@gmail.com
