Well I checked my battery water to day and have never seen such hard caps to get off. Is there a special tool other then a screw driver to pop those caps off with.

CHUCK: IF you are talking the chassis battery originally supplied by WCC, it "was" a sealed battery not intended to be opened. ED

Ed, I think the battery in my new coach is bad. It will not hold a charge. I can't trickle charge it and it sounds like it's boiling. I hear all kinds of gurgles coming from it.

Ed please don't tell me that as iI specificly asked the dealer if the water needed checked on the chassis battery and he said yes, this was the dealer i bought the coach from. So now that i have screwed up the battery what is a good cheap one to replace it with.

ENGINE AND CHASSIS ELECTRICAL, BATTERY

Workhorse utilizes maintenance free batteries standard on all configurations of chassis.
Although all batteries are maintenance free, two styles and brands may be utilized. The first
and most common are Delco Freedom sealed top, maintenance free style batteries. The gas
engine chassis are equipped with one battery having 690 Cold Cranking Amps @ 0 degrees F,
115 minutes Reserve Capacity @ 80 degrees F.

The second style of batteries is Workhorse branded maintenance free
with removable fluid inspection/fill caps. The Workhorse brand batteries utilized on the gas
engine chassis only and have 690 Cold Cranking Amps @ 0 degrees F, 115 minutes Reserve
Capacity @ 80 degrees F. The physical size of all batteries utilized is 10.22" long, 6.77" wide,
7.22" height and weight 37.50 lbs. each. The BCI group size is 78; replacement model numbers
are 78-7YR for the Delco and 78-72 for Workhorse batteries.

You're only going to buy one of these things every few years if that so I would say get the best battery you can afford with a replacement or good extended warranty.

When my Delco prematurely failed, no sooner did I place it on the counter that there was a brand new replacement coming over the other way.

I'd try to get the dealer to buy me a battery since you received bad information from them about your maintenance concern.

DriVer if I understand you correctly then my gas eng does have removable inspection caps so maybe i did't ruin them when i popped the top off as it sounds like they have removable inspection / fill caps although it was one of the hardest cap i hae ever seen to get off.
Although one of the caps doesn't appear to be as tight as it was

This means that the battery itself has Workhorse printed on the side or top of the battery.

It would not be uncommon to see a Workhorse branded battery in a 2007 chassis.

My first WH OEM Delco battery lasted 24 months. That's when I found out that Delco did not warrant the battery.
I ended up having to drive 80 miles to the nearest WH Service center on a dead battery. I didn't dare shut
down because I could not get the engine restarted. After I got to the authorized service center I had to get
the regional WH service rep involved before the service center would replace the battery under warranty.

The second WH OEM Delco battery lasted 20 months. By this time I was fed up with the OEM batteries. I
replaced it with a Walmart DT-3N. In addition to a good price and an excellent warranty, the battery has
both side and top terminals plus removable caps to check the acid. The terminal configuration allows me
to easily attach all the extra cables for the stuff I have added to the MH.

The WM battery has been in service since 8/2006. It shows no signs of deteriorization and has never required
additional water. If it fails, I'll take it back to Walmart, which will be far more convenient than finding a
Workhorse service center.

My Workhorse battery is sealed or so it seemed, but I pried it open with a screwdriver. Two of the cells are corroded to nothing but rust floating in acid. I am pretty sure I need a new battery. The coach was made over a year ago, but of course it is new to me. The voltage reading was 5.5 volts. When the house kicks on the 14 volts to the house batteries, the chassis battery starts making noises and my headlights come on by themselves. It's prettey weird.

I was dry camping Monday. Tuesday AM the chassis battery was dead. I used the battery boost and got it started and all was well. We went to an RV camp and plugged in. This AM I went out to remove the battery, the green eye was gone. The battery was so hot that I could smell it before I opened the hood. At 49 degrees this AM there was vapor comming from the sides and top of the battery. Very hot to the touch. Apparently there is a shorted cell. I removed it and one hour later it was still very warm to the touch. I suspect the shorted cell was causing the heat. Glad I went out to check. I suppose it could have erupted and caused a pile of dammage. My new Wally World battery looks good.
