I just had the "Banks Power Pack" installed on our 2004 Dolphin. When the Installer tried to install the new Banks Computer program, was told I needed to have the existing computer updated from Workhorse. Has anyone done this? Can it be done with a laptop? any help appreciated as I'm a long way from Workhorse service center. thanks Alleyman

Alleyman, I have not heard of anyone having to do this. Call Brazel's RV Performance and ask to speak with Jon. Have your VIN# handy.

About Banks system...

1) They do not recalibrate the ECM to account for the headers.
2) The O2 sensors sometimes are not position correctly so the fuel trims are potentially out of whack. Note - the sensors can not be tuned individually as there is only 1 table that controls them. So you could have a lean condition on one side and rich on there other side.
3) I have heard that depending on the version of the ECM/TCM the trans command package will not install.

With UltraPower your ECM receives any updates from GM/Allison as Brazel's has a license to access the calibration codes from GM/Allison. Also with UltraPower your engine is scanned from warm up (open loop) to operating temp (closed loop) so they can monitor the short/long term fuel trims, O2 sensor, knock sensor (ping/timing retard), MAF, MAP etc. Along with a copy of your current ECM contents this data is evaluated and the appropriate tables are updated and returned to your ECM as a fully customized tune.

As far as Workhorse doing an upgrade... Yes, they can but it will probably cost $$$$. You can check you calibration codes fro FREE from GM. You will need your Vin #. Here is the link to GM Calibration Codes. I have a sample of the code on my web site in PDF form if that you can download. Here is the link Sample Calibration Codes in the Misc section.

Alleyman, I have the Banks on a 2005 Chassis and the computer program installed fine. You may want to call Banks and talk with them about the problem. The Banks programmer may be bad! Good Luck

Thanks for the info. I'm waiting for a second callback from Banks. When I talked to them, he still says I need an update. Can't find anyone else that did. They say my computer they sent is okay. I will let you know how I come out.

Alleyman,
I have an 07 Allegro Bay on a 06 W22 Chassis. I installed the Banks Power Pak System on my motorhome with no issues, from either the installation of the system or the computer program. It runs well, makes more power, does run a little rich(blackens the tail pipe).
I am happy the the results of adding this system.

Ask Banks to take your vin # and check the calibration codes at the GM site I referenced in the above post and tell you what update you need. I think they are blowing smoke!
