I had my coolant and Allison Tranny and filter changed today on my gas w22- mechanic used Allison Transyn and filter. His supervisor also brought some extended life diesel coolant even though I had specified Dexcool. Supervisor took off to get the Dexcool and returned after I had been called away. Mechanic finished the job in my absence

The invoice just said 'coolant'

When I arrived home I found part container of Peak Extended life coolant in a compartment so that is what the supervisor decided to install

Is Workhorse's/GM plea to use only DexCool a marketing gimick? Understand that at one time the lack of silicates (as in DexCool) was important - then folks decided that some silicates are need for lube purposes.

I can not find specs for the Peak Extended Life - seems that while it is used in Canada, it is not used in the US so my web searches seem to be going nowhere. Called Peak and a techy was supposed to call me back with the specs - no call yet

Does anyone know where to find Peak Specs?

Am I risking my engine if I leave the Peak in?

By the way, the RV is 5 years old and it had red coolant that had never been changed (only 20k miles on it) - the Peak Coolant is amber or maybe orange (has yellow/gold cap)

Also checked diff fluid and it was black with no sign of contamination (white)

Thanks,

Preston

It appears that the Peak coolant is not a problem. I pulled this info off the net.

PEAK™ Global Extended Life Antifreeze & Coolant features a patented, advanced organic acid technology that can be used in all automobiles worldwide, regardless of make, model, year or original antifreeze color. Its patented inhibitors provide maximum cooling system protection against damaging rust and corrosion in all automobiles. PEAK Global Extended Life Antifreeze & Coolant is fully compatible with all quality conventional and new extended life automotive coolants, including GM DEX-COOL and new Ford and Chrysler coolants.

Hi Joe,

I thought I had answered this but my response has gone walk about.

The product that was used is not the Global - it is Peak Extended Life coolant

Meets ASTM D-3306, D-4340

From a vendor's web site I found

  • Features extended life coolant technology which is compatible with all vehicles and light trucks
  • Protects cooling system against damaging rust and corrosion
  • Phosphate-free and silicate-free formula
  • Provides 240,000 km or five years of protection when a complete cooling system flush and fill is performed
I am in Canada and this may be the Canadian version of Global

I can not find its specs on the Peak web site and a Peak techy who I have left a message for has not called me back

Here is the spec sheet I just received from Peak - looks like the Peak Extended Life is a valid alternative to Dexcool
