this is my frist post so I hope I get it right? I've seen all the posts about coolent leaking from the left head plug and mine was also but it seems that after running for a while after shut down I have a coolent leak from the right front of the engine it looks like its comming down from the water pump area but I cant seem to trace it, just wondering if any one has an idea I was thinking loose hose clamp. Thanks for great forum I love this site its very helpful

Bill, Although it may be worth your trouble to have a pressure test accomplished on your cooling system, I have seen occasionally where the overflow from the recovery tank might discharge coolant in weird places. Check your recovery tank overflow hose to see where it discharges. Check the coolant level to see if it is within the Cold & Hot lines lines. If your recovery tank is constantly at the cold mark I am told that there maybe a leak someplace. If your coolant level remains within the lines you're probably doing just fine.

One thing I would check for is a drip on the ground. Does the coolant hit the ground do you know? If so, the most likely scenario at that point could be a loose clamp or leaky hose. I still have all my original hoses as far as I know.
.

Bill, if you take your doghouse off and look to the right on top of engine you may see where some heater hoses, two, were spliced with nipples and four clamps. Clamps are the spring type and need to be replaced with the stainless steel screw type.

Welcome to irv2.

Agree with 007. Check heater hose connections to engine and splices.

Bill, if you have the capability to pressurize your, cooling system, you should do so with the engine cold. Hose connectons, aand yes, even water pump seals tend to contract when cold, and the leakage will show up more readily when pressure is applied. From your description, and ther age of the motorhome, I too would suspect a hose clamp that needs tightening or replacement. And as DriVer mentioned, check for correct coolant level in the reservoir.

In addition to the heater hose connections, which I've had leak in the past, look at the clamp that holds the tube from the recovery tank to the nipple on the radiator fill neck. I've had that leak in the past also.

I had a small leak on the metal side of the heater control valve. One side of valve is plastic and the other has a piece of metal formed around the nipple and thats where I found my leak.

I had similar leak after replacing upper/lower hoses, I thought the clamps were tight but still had a dribble at times (usually right on startup) around the right front of engine. It ended up being the top radiator hose on the thermostat housing. Instead of nut driver tight, I used a 1/4" ratchet with ext and socket and tightened it real tight. Not so tight as to cut/crimp hose but tighter than a nut driver can do. Solved my problem.

well went over all the calmps and hoses, all thight. pumped up the system to 15psi and let sit for an hour no leak. I looked around under the front and found a wet spot around the the right fron head and serp. belt mount wiped with finger but did not smell like coolent. I guess I will put in some dye and see what happens. Thanks everyone for all your help I'll keep looking

well I found the leak. it was comming from the heater hose next to alt. what a bear to get at. the clamp was loose.I pumped it up to 15psi this morning and left to work when I got home early this afternoon the psi. was down and had a small puddle on the driveway. I took off the top of the dog house and shined a real bright light down in the eng. compartment and found a small trail comming out of the heater hose there was not much room to get a hand in there. used a 5/16 1/4 drive socket and a small fine tooth ratchet, took some time and a little blood but its all good now. Thanks everyone for the help (I'm sure I'll need more) Bill
