We traded a 2006 KSDP for a 2005 Kountry Star gas and am very pleased with the results. We have just gotten home from a 4000 mile trip and only had one problem. When driving in heavy rain it acts like water is getting in the air cleaner. Has anyone else had this problem? Also wher can i obtain an Allison trans owners manual. It is the onl one that was not in the coach. The only thing i mass from the diesel is the air horns. Thanks Russ Bennett. PS the brakes worked fine.

When I had my Workhorse, heavy rain would run down the windshield and in to the gap for the front 'hood'. Once the air filter got wet and gave me a check engine light. I put some 1/2 foam tape in that gap and it solved the problem.

RUSS: Please take a look at this thread from the past.
8.1 Performance Problems

Check out reply #5. I think the pictures I posted are still in the photos section above.

Same problem I had on my o5 dolphin and same fix.

There is no need to travel without air horns! Here is what I have been using for the past 10 years.

Hadley Bully Air Horns .... "You mess with the bull and you get the horns!"

I keep saying this is not a workhorse problem.. Though Workhorse has engineered a solution for many motor homes and can likely help you.. I say that because some coaches never have this problem, even though they use the same chassis.. So it's got to be something the coach builders are doing wrong.

And yes, the "Tuba" as Workhorse calls it (The fresh air intake for the engine) is positioned where it can such water cascading down the front of the motor home or splashed up by the wheels... My coach.... Well, Either the water cascades lower or does not splash in that direciton cause I have driven in flat out gully-washer rains and never missed a beat. Thus all I can do is refer you to the Workhorse customer service folks for the after-screw-up kit they developed.

NOTE: This says something of my opinion of Workhorse

I fully believe it's the design of the coach BODY that is the problem

But Workhorse still developed the fix and if you are under warranty will install it for you.... It should have been the coach builder's problem.

Winnebago Industries has fitted a device to the opening of the tuba which looks like a raised deflector shield that has an adequately large opening. I have a picture of it but I can't put my hands on it at the moment but I will look through by photo albums.

Perhaps one the the Winnebago owners has a picture they can share. To me it looks like an off the shelf modification and it should be available as a SKU from Winnebago Parts. Try Lichtsinn Motors Parts to see if they can get it.

Thanks for the ideas. Looks klike I'll seal the air box and hood as soon as the rain stops. Is the spin on filter the only transmission filter that needs to be changed? Would a 2005 have Dexron or Trans Synd fluid? Thanks again. Russ Bennett.

Russ, Workhorse began using Transynd in April of 2005. If you give me the last 6 digits of the VIN# - I can check for you!

Your vehicle was made before 4/15/05 so I would expect that your transmission is or was filled with Dexron III. I would recommend 2 fluid changes using Transynd Fluid or equivalent. This will bring you up to and possibly over 95% synthetic content.

KSDP, I actually went a couple of months but all that you are trying to do is get the 1st load mixed in really well. You can do this is a day by taking a good 50 mile run including some stop and go traffic and then doing the 2nd change on the following day. What you are attempting to achieve is moving/diluting the Dexron out of the converter because you can not directly drain it from underneath the vehicle. Once you drain and then refill the 2nd load the %percentages% of Transynd are sufficient to offer the protection you are working to achieve.

KSDP... just curious, and if you don't mind me asking, why did you trade your diesel for the gas? Does the KS mean it was a Kountry Star Diesel?
