comming home from florida I went into limp mode 5 times. by the third time I noticed that I was messing with the cruise when it happened. It happens when I hit the resume after having to brake. If I turn the cruise off and back on, hit the button everything ok. I guess I will just stay away from the resume button

I found that the case also if you flick the resume button you will go into limp mode.
Also using it to increase speed and flicking it instead of using the button on end of shift to set speed.
Once in CC do any adjustments using only the button, less surprises that way.

Just as in Mel Brooks comedy masterpiece, Young Dr. Frankenstein, This situation could be described as " Abby Normal"

It happens because the throttle position sensor looses communication with the computer. A shut down and restart will allow you to continue but you will have an error code. Mine does this if I go to switch on the cruse or resume as I hit a jar or bump in the road.

ron55, If you got a SES then you definitely got a code. that event won't happen without setting a code. Not sure if you have an SG-II or if you have had the ECM read by a T2. A number or good restart cycles will clear out a code I understand so if it's been a while you may not have a DTC set at the moment.
