I would like to install a dash A/C shutoff switch for the compressor. when driving during the evening i like the dask to blow air on the windsheild but the a/c compressor engages reducing my gas milage. Has any-one wired this in

Renco: WELCOME to iRV2.com We are glad you joined and posted your first question. As I understand it, you want to select "defrost" so the fan will blow on your windshield but you want to electrically prevent the A/C compressor from coming on, right?

Hopefully, one of our talented DIY guys will be along shortly with your answer.

Again, Welcome, and let us hear how this worked out for you. ED

Find the clutch control wire that runs to the AC compressor and splice in a switch. All you need to do is run some wire of appropriate size, and figure where to place the switch -- which should have a rating to carry the clutch current. If you have an ammeter, you can put it in the circuit and read the current, get a switch with a larger capacity than the current draw so the switch doesn't melt ---

If the amp draw is to great install a relay or solenoid to allow for smaller switch. Run main power thru and activate the relay with the switch.

Interesting idea, might look into it myself
