2003 Newmar Kountry Star on a W22 chassis. Compressor seized up causing engine to stop and would not start. Took off the 103 in belt and put on one for an 8.1 pickup, bypassing the AC Comp. worked fine. Now, I had an authorized service center order and install a new Comp, Dryer, and a new belt, but now the coldest air I can get out of it is about 70 Deg. Both electric fans in front of radiator are working. Paid the guy $1000.00. I think it should be colder. Also, there is no condesation or water dripping under coach or on the cold pipe under the hood. Any ideas?? Dave

dmpoo1 -
Do you remember what the size / part number of the temporary belt was?? Sounds like it would be a good thing to carry just in case...
As far as the temperature is concerned, my dash air only puts out air at about 30 degrees less than ambient, the other day when I was working on it all I could get out was ~75 degrees, but it was over 110 degrees outside...

I got it from Advanced Auto Parts. The number is 950K6. I fit with the ensioner stretched to the max but I drove the MH about 70 miles to the service center withou having to be towed. I think we should be getting colder air than 70 or 75 deg.

DriVer, I don't know what type air conditioning you have in your coach, but you should be putting out air that is much cooler than 20 degrees below ambient. Yes I know output air is dependent greatly on temp of air moving across condenser. I just checked mine with outside air temp at 96 degrees, I am getting 43 degrees discharge air temp from center duct on dash. This was obtained holding 1000 RPM engine speed, and the A/C control set on recirculate. Both electric cooling fans were running in front of cool pak, and coach was sitting. In my other life, I had all the compressor pressures, ambient temps as opposed to condenser air temps and humidity charts, probably still do in my manuals someplace. I used to strive for discharge temps in the low 40 degree range when working on automotive systems. Not always possible, but certainly could get way, way, better than 20 degrees below ambient. If you are only getting 70 degree discharge temp from dash, something is wrong.

I believe "ambient" is being loosely tossed around.
So I'll toss in my 2 cents too. I believe the general rule is that 20-30 degree temperature change occurs in the air moving across a properly set up evaporator core. So if the ac is operating on recirculate mode, most of the air going into the evaporator is at the ambient "within the coach"-- guessing at 75 degrees. Then it should follow that the air exiting the ducts on the dash should be close to 50 degrees.
If outside air is coming in as in the "normal mode", then the ambient would be the outside air temperature or 96 degrees as stated in above thread. I would expect the evaporator to drop 20-30 degrees off that value or 66 degrees coming out of the dash...

Marty, if memory serves me right, and it sometimes doesn't the amount and temperature of the air across the condenser is the main determining factor in discharge air temp across evaporator core. This is providing system is properly sized, and fully charged with refrigerent. And of course vacuum system is working properly, no leaking diverter doors to let in unwanted heated air etc. I just checked my 2004 Allegro again, and inside temp was 86 degrees, discharge temp 43 degrees, recirculate. If it was putting out out 66, or even 56 degree temp, I would be looking for something wrong in system. I never use fresh air or outside mode, as the inlet on my coach is within the engine compt, and the incomming air is much more than ambient outside air.

If I spent $1000 dollars on my a/c and it only put out 70 degree air, I would stop payment until they made it come out 50-55 degree. My 03' comes out 48 deg. at start-up and drops to 53-55 when in traffic. When on the open road it could be 95 out it still puts out close to 50 deg. all the time. Call your credit card company and stop payment until resolved. Good luck.

Dieselclacker,
I agree with all that you have said. Just trying to nail down what "ambients" any body was refering to

I just want to dispel the rumor that I spent $1,000 to restore my AC.
Now if the DW is happy with the performance of the A/C, I really don't care if it spits nickels. There's one thing that I do know for sure; it's not blowing hot air anymore.
I have a A/C temp probe in the dash register and I'm keeping an eye on it.
Some of the UFOs that I have driven would actually satisfy a sled dog.

DriVer
We have a 2001 Damon Daybreak 3275 on a Workhorse Chassis with a Chevy 8.1 Vortec, we live in the UK and have just had the A/C recharged, the engineer was unsure of the correct pressure to charge the system, any idea what pressure we should be aiming for, it now works but dosent really feel cold enough

It was 86 degrees outside today and the A/C thermometer showed 60 degrees coming from the registers. DW asked me to turn down the blower speed.
