Heading down to Phoenix this year our dash air wasn't working. Maybe a little cooler than vent by not by much. We took it in to a Newmar repair facility in Mesa several days ago. His evaluation was that the compressor wasn't turning on. He switched the relay with the start relay, checked fuse and found no power to the sensor on the tube going into the fan housing. He thinks its the dash switch but when I turn it to air it changes the air output and closes the vent on the fan housing.

Since this is a gray area, ED, no offense, some of this is Newmar's responsibility and the rest is workhorse.

Driver - or anyone - what would you do next? We land in Harlingen Tx tomorrow to sit about 6 weeks. This really hasn't worked good since new. Last year we had it recharged in Oklahoma and seemed to work better for awhile.

Thanks in advance

If I remember correctly there is a low pressure switch that disables compressor if little or no refrigerant is in the system. A pressure test with nitrogen at an A/C shop will tell you if compressor will run and determine if there is a leak.

When the dash air failed on my workhorse the dealer said "Low pressure switch, we don't have one in stock"

I failed to believe him.. When I got the rig back to the factory their A/C Technician fixed the problem,,, which by the way was NOT the low pressure switch (It was the expansion valve)

Now, why did I not believe the dealer?

I listened to the compressor cycle on and off as my wife operated the switch. it tracked the switch exactly. That would not have happened if the L/P switch had tripped off.

I was having tbl with mine for a couple of years. It wasnt much colder than the vent air. In fact when I switched to max air sometimes it would just quit blowing at all. I had a couple of ac places look at it. some said they couldnt find anything while others said low freon, bad switch, etc, etc. After doing research on this site someone sugg checking vac lines. Sure enough found 2 lines with very, very small cracks in them. I Replaced them and havnt had anymore problems since. I dont know if this is your problem or not.

It isn't too difficult to check the low pressure switch for continuity, remove the connector, use an ohmmeter across the switch, should show continuity if the pressure is good. You can also put a paper clip into the connector, if compressor clutch kicks in, the switch is either bad or system is low on freon. Any competent AC person would have put guages on system and checked pressures anyway.

Thanks everyone. We landed in Tx today. Thanks for the responses. My main issue is wheather to deal with a Workhorse place or a Newmar place. I will check the switches however. Good advice.
