Is it normal for the aux. fans to constantly cycle on and off when the ac is on? The air has never worked very good. I think this is something new it is doing.

Ricky,

If you have a Workhorse chassis, yes the aux fans cycle when the AC is on. They move a little air across the condenser and help make the A/C a little more efficient.

Ricky: "normally" the electric fans are running continously whenever the A/C is on AND the engine is up to operating temp. They should not be cutting in and out.

Are you verifying their on/off operation by observation or are you basing this on hearing the roar while driving?

It is a 2004 National seabreeze. I am watching them while they are starting and stopping. At first I thought it was the compressor, but after taking the dog house cover off I saw it was not the compressor.

Low freon. It cycles when the low presure switch turns the compresor on and stops when the compresor stops. You most likely have a leak.

I thought that could be the problem but I wanted to make sure that the fans should not cut on and off like they are doing. Thanks for telling me.

Ricky, If the compressor stays on the fans should stay on.

A cheap (about $25) charging adaptor with low pressure guage will tell you if you are low on refrigerant. WalMart or an auto parts store will have one.

I bought this coach in 07 and the dash air never has worked good. I have put some freon in it and thanks to this forum replaced the 'problem' valve. It did help a little but when I was changing the oil in the motor I noticed what the fans was doing. I thought I knew the answer but I wasn't sure.

It might be the time for you to put this system on a real machine and have it vacuumed down and recharged by a pro that knows the system. The AC is rather conventional and there really no rocket science involved. The change has to be right on I have found in order to return the best performance.

I notice fans coming on and off when I drive.. But I can't say I have ever connected the action of the fan to the A/C switch.

That said.. it is normal for the condenser fans to be on when the A/C is on. It may be I just do not hear them over other sounds.
