Diagnosing a Tricky Brake Problem

1985 Chevrolet P Series motor home (Winnebago Body) with a hydro-boost brake system.
Original Problem:
When driving the motor home, the brake pedal did not feel right; there was also a smell coming from the right front wheel. Found the right front brake had locked up, so replaced the brake hose. Then pumped the brakes with the bleeder valve open, but had no brake pedal pressure and no fluid coming out of the bleeder valve. The symptoms now are:
·No brake fluid getting to the right front wheel.
·The brake pedal does not return, and the brake lights stay on.
·The brake pedal is low.

Things being considered are:

·Hydro-boost component. But it gets its power from the power steering pump and that is working. Also if this component was not working, then it would be hard to depress the brake pedal
·Brake master cylinder. On a visual inspection this appeared to be okay.
·Something else?

Any thoughts as to what this new problem might be and the best way to diagnosis it?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi jdbs3,

Try pumping the brakes with the air bleeder valve open only when the brake pedal is depressed. Close the valve before the brake pedal is released. This is a two person job and requires coordination between the two folks.
1. Open the bleeder valve.
2. Press and hold down the brake pedal.
3. Close the bleeder valve.
4. Release the brake pedal.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 until brake fluid comes out the the bleeder valve.
6. Close the bleeder valve only when fluid is coming our and the brake pedal is being depressed.

This may take quite a few repetitions.
