Am considering either Scan Gauge or Interceptor for monitoring systems and diagnosing codes.
Anyone have experience with both and can give opinion?

Definately go with http://www.aeroforcetech.com/
It is such a simple install - just plug it in to the computer port under your dash - after cutting a 2 1/16" hole in your dash.
It reads all the codes etc - look at the list on their web page for more info.
I put mine last week and tested it on a 95 mile drive and it did all that it said it would do.

I prefer the ScanGage. It is far less expensive, shows 4 parameters at a time, the parameters are user selectable, the screen color and brightness can be set to the users liking and no holes are required.

I guess I will go with the Scan Gauge. I will probably trade up in the next two years and the Scan Gauge is portable.I assume I can use it on my other vehicles as well.

Sorry! I somehow made a mistake. I went to the web site and clicked on order/contact and GM and I don't know where I got the 499.00. After seeing your post I went back and your right. I am now considering ordering one, thanks.

However, if you prefer you can cut a 1/2" hole under it and mount the plug into the bottom so it does not show, it's really clean looking, as I did. But you can also mount it on the side as both positions are available. It's great I've had one for a while now.

Just be aware of what you are getting with each. The Interceptor will display many more parameters, which I can't imagine would not be of interest such as trans temp, oil pressure, knock retard, transmission torque, etc. The Scan Gauge is a generic device made to work on all vehicles, and only supports a small number of generic parameters. The Interceptor has a much brigher, more colorful dispay as well. Once mounted it integrates better with the dash since it's an actual round gauge and not a box. If cost is the biggest issue and you're not interested in true engine performance then the Scan Gauge is the way to go. If engine and transmission health are important than spend another $50 and get the Interceptor.

A little off topic, but has anyone had any indication that their OBD2 port might not be alive.. Trying a neighbors new scan tool, I get zero reaction from his scanner. My obd was alive when my IP was replaced( I assume

Todd,thank you, does the Interceptor work off just the obd11 as well? If so how does it pick up trans temp? I was going to have a seperate trans temp installed.as I didn`t think there was a sensor available.

Check fuse #21 & the cigarette lighter fuse one of them most likely is blown.

The Interceptor simply plugs into the OBD2 port like the other product. The Allison Transmission has a temperature sensor in the valve body to measure the fluid temp. I believe the Allison is standard with the Workhorse chassis? All the standard GM automatic transmissions have temp sensors as well, at least those from ~1997 on. The gauge displays trans temp on those as well.
