Did Allison trans. behind 8.1 have Auto-Park system?

Did the MHs' with the Allison trannys / 8.1 chev. engine have
the same auto-park system as earlier models with the 454?

One thread said that the Alllison. trannys had a park pawl with
a foot pedal. I thought the auto-park was installed up thru
2006 regardless if one had a Allison trans. I could be wrong.

My 2000 Workhorse chassis has a 454, 2001 and up, 8.1 ?

Thank you

My 06 W20 has an Allison with a parking paw and a foot parking break cable operated to drum brake on the back of the Allison.

I think only P30's had Autopark, no W chassis's.

frederick w :

The simple answer to your question is NO. I believe YOUR chassis is a P32 and those chassis used the J71 AAPB, regardless of which engine, because they have a GM 4 speed tranny without a Park Pawl.

The W20 thru W22 chassis all used the 8.1L and Allison 1000MH with a PP, and therefore don't need an AAPB. They have a foot-applied PB.

When Workhorse first introduced the W-24 chassis, it used an Allison 2000 series tranny which had no PP, and therefore the J72 AAPB was included on those chassis. So there were "some" chassis with 8.1L and Allisons that did have an AAPB, but the J72 is not the SAME as the J71 AAPB.

The UFO (R-26) chassis also have 8.1L and Allisons, but those chassis used another form of AAPB, but not the J71 or J72, rather one made my WABCO, I think.

So the not-so-simple answer to your question is that it all depends on which chassis, and what model year, you are talking about. Ed
