No Longer A Dirty Word

We're starting to see more synergy in the direction of Diesel. I just saw the above promotion for Audi and they make an interesting case.

Workhorse's new product line using Navistar MaxxForce engines has already thrown their hat into the ring and they have given us the W16D, W20D and the W22D. The promise for a diesel powered UFO remains on the books and it would appear to be possible using a MaxxForce 7 series engine with 620 lbs/ft of torque.

Going forward, Navistar's expectation per their press release that Workhorse will be providing chassis for Monaco RV will require much larger displacement diesels than Workhorse has provided in the past using a C7 and ISC. The MaxxForce 9 ->13 appear to be in place and ready to go.

The gasoline BIG block apparently from everything that we have heard has passed much the same as the "flat head."

Given the current push by the Feds to kill BIG block gassers, do we wait for a souped up small blocks offering a lot of horsepower and a moderate amount of torque ~400 lbs/ft or less or do we go with 250HP and 620 lbs/ft of torque on diesel.

Before diesel is dismissed out of hand in opinion I think everyone should at least see where the industry is heading with those engines and International's implementation of 2010 emissions.

Click here for more information and to see the Webinar Play the videos and read all the stuff about SCR and Urea.

We certainly have spoken quite a bit about individual lack of desire for diesels however in the end will you just give up on buying an RV or will a clean burning diesel fit the bill?

According to the best information I have, "The particulate matter that is emitted from a 2010 diesel engine is claimed to be cleaner than the air into which it is discharged." Now I wouldn't want to breathe in the exhaust stream however I believe the output of engines needs to proceed along in the direction of being a lot cleaner.

So let the debate continue ...... and let's keep it clean and green.

Although 620 ft/lb sounds good 250hp does not. When I set out to buy my present motorhome I though I wanted a diesel. I drove several 275hp Cummins and was very unhappy with the lack of hp. When I finally drove the Workhorse with the 8.1 I knew that is what I was looking for.
