Ok, I'm on my way to National via Virginia. Started out with my tank full of Shell. I'm keeping watch on the computer average mpg because of all the changes I have done (DIY-CAI, Taylor wire, re-gapped plugs). When I filled up again...this time Exxon. I dropped 0.7-0.8 mpg...and after running through this tank I refilled with Shell and the average went back up.

Has anyone noticed this much change in Brands of gas or did I just get a bad tank of Exxon.

Hamie, I have a tank of Shell in now but haven't got low enough to refill yet. Ca. gas prices are yo-yo again. I got lucky on this tank, same price as others in area. FWIW, in my old Austin Healey w/ beastly rebuild, it would NOT run on anything les than 100 octane and really loved Shell. Natch I'd like to run it in rv all the time.

I use regular unleaded.....I think it's 87 octane. I'm curious what octane gas others burn in their motorhomes?

87 Octane "regular" unleaded is all your 8.1 L needs and that is darn sure all I can afford! ED

Remember that the Octane rating is not power output or quality. It is a measure of the resistance to preignitio (ping).

Va. mandated 10% ethanol as of May 5 as I
understand it. I will buy out of state when
I can, in the MH. North Carolina does not have
the ethanal at this time. Did you get the gas
in Va.???? TENN.

Yes, Ethenol will lower your MPG.

On another note, if you think that because your dash readout states you are getting 9 mpg, you are really only getting less than 8. The computer is high.....

Heck, with motorhomes, it really doesn't matter what you get for gas mileage. You have to pay for play.

Perhaps you haven't read much about owner concerns but fuel mileage is important especially for folks who live in their motorhomes.

Go to Costco or sams and buy a 6 pack of Chevron Techtron and add it to any tank of gas that contains Ethanol. It should helpmaintain your mpg.

Workhorse does not recommend the use of any add-in products. The only product that should be used in a Workhorse fuel system is 97 Octaine unleaded gasoline. Other than Sta-Bil I would not recommend the addition of anything other than gasoline.

I can find the verse in the service manual if need be; I saw it yesterday while researching my Fuel System article.
