There's ALOT of really good stuff on this Forum.
But sometimes *it* gets mixed in..and for an example: Consider the "Oil Analysis with Synthetic M1" thread.
What Mike said. (I learned a long time ago that
Brazel's RV's posts were short and to the point.) Unlike mine.
So, when Brazel's speaks, I listen.
The Dyno Pull Results at:
http://www.irv2.com/photopost/data/752/image0012.JPG
And Mike's comments: Nothing left power-wise
past 3800 RPMs (with or with out UP Upgrade).
(Note: The Dyno Chart stops at 3800 RPMs.)
Peak Torque (8.1 L) is at 2500 RPMs.
Peak HP is at 3500 RPMs.
And..the figure of 3200 RPMs refers to (according to Brazel's) the point on the
chart where the Torque and HP values @ RPMs
"intersect"..or cross one another..??
I don't see it. Not in the example shown.
The OE values, on the first "baseline" pull,
ain't even close to each other (the purple
squares and the blue diamond traces) NOR are
the UP Upgrade traces close to intersecting.
The *D* values are closest together at about
3500 RPMs...300 off from 3200 RPMs..??

Steady Eddie,
The chart you are looking at is a composite of the two plots given to me at Brazels.
OE data was in June 06 when I had my UP upgrade first done.
Subsequent to that several dynos were run by Mike in the course of unsuccessfully solving a pinging issue until January 07 in Quartzite.
The final UP dyno test was done this past July(07) at Brazels on our seasonal migration to the NW.
Amongst a fairly expensive number of chassis repairs and upgrades, Mike reran the dyno test for me. I felt that I never really got the benefit of the dyno cost which was to represent before and after values prior to the solution of the pinging issue.
Sooo it is that last dyno run that was plotted against the OE data and presented on a single chart.
The RPM scales and verticle axis were different in both data sets so the data was manually transcribed by me to a common set of axis.
Hope that puts things in better perspective.
Marty

Ok Eddie,
This is what I was talking about! I was wrong instead of the torque & Horsepower coming together at 3200RPM it was at 3140 RPM.....SORRY!
Thanks Dale!!!

Mike I fail to see any significance in where the two curves cross! The vertical axis range and increments are arbitrarily chosen...
Changing the axis will change where the curves cross???

OH NO!, now you've done it Marty! I'm all cornfused again. I always thought that where the lines crossed was the optimum combination. Now you are telling me that point can be skewed by changing the scale of the graph?? HELP ED

I was stating where the torque & horsepower intersect each other & the peak horsepower being at 3500 RPM.So there is no reason to be turning 4000 RPM!And was stating that the difference between the stock peaks & the UltraPower peaks will not add any significant amount of wear to the engine.

Marty,
I figured this one out with the "Butt Dyno" and the tachometer. After I installed UltraPower my sweet spot is about 64 MPH at about 2200+/-. The Butt Dyno started to show itself when I started to force the rig out of OD early and run the rpm to about 3200+/-. By doing that I almost never drop in to 3rd and see 4000 rpm. Even when I pushed it to say 3500 I did see any real gain.

Ed,
You can not change where the two intersect,by changing the scale. It will always be between 3100 and 3200 RPM with UltraPower.

I seemed to have opened a can of worms.
The Graphs/Charts posted by Dale are totally different in scaling AND amounts. Same 8.1 L
Engine, same Dyno, but it is hard to tell,
other than the fantastic UP results, one from the other. Both are over a span of 2000 RPMs, just different start and stop points (I think?).
I have determined ONE thing for sure: The Red Line on my OE tach is not right...

Uhmm,
try presenting both tq and hp with a single vertical axis versus rpm and they don't even intersect.. Ive just done this with your graphs.
I'll post it soon as it gets thru the approvals on photos

Right but without RPM's they won't intersect! That is the point, they cross at 3100-3200 RPM
