Yep that's what you are hearing. Mine does it all the time, especially when exiting the interstate. Check your tachometer next time, if it was downshifting, you'll see it go up, but I doubt that you will.

BTW, the fan "roars" a lot less if the air conditioner is off.
You'll get used to it. I thought mine engine was reving to the moon, and the transmission must be slipping, until I noticed my RPM were not going up at all.
