Two great deals--

#1 Deal-

Yup, I'm still making door striker bolts for you guys and gals and they are still "free of charge"-

We have many new members and I haven't posted this in several years, so I thought I'd refresh this item in this forum.

Now, I know you are saying "Why is this old fool giving them away?" here is the answer-

I contacted a patten attorney in VA and he wanted $10 G's up front. I'd have to be crazy to do something like that after I had made and given away maybe a hundred of these, by that time- so they are still free to our RV'n buddies.

If you have one of these shirt (or jacket), or skin tearing, miserable bolts on your door jam-

Then you need one of these-

I'm at home now, and making a new batch for OEMY to distribute to you Guys and Gals.
If you have a special size you need, like some Diesel Pushers bolts are longer than the gas powered rigs are, let OEMY know and I'll eventually make some for you folks. Oemy tells me what he needs, and I make them.

A long time ago I asked if we had an RVer in the "plating business" and would plate them "GRATIS", that would be swell-. I never got an answer. If we have one now, that would plate them, I'll send them to you enroute to OEMY for distribution. In the meantime, I'll spray paint them.

I have a few comments I'll make at the end of this thread about alignment and problems with your door jams and striker bolts.

#2 Deal-

OEMY just updated my Scan Gauge ll. He has a board replacement update and he is running a special on it right now The price is $15, and that includes return shipping for the folks that got your's from him originally- $25 for other folks.
This update include the new Engine Oil Pressure "EOP" and 15 more, additional, gauges. .

SWEET STUFF-HUH-?

Now from the 'ole school of "Hard Knocks" about your existing 5/8" "Hex Head" door striker bolt.
If you can look closely, with a good flashlight, at the inside edge of the hex head bolt and see shiney metal showing, you badly need to add a spacer washer (one will do just fine) on the mounting shoulder of that bolt. You have an "Interference issue". About 75% of the ones I have replaced in 4+ years have this problem. It creates a "metal on metal" feeling when closing the door.
This problem is eliminated with my newly designed bolt.

Or, you can examine it in you hand- simply remove the bolt with a 5/8" (1/2 drive) socket, or a box wrench. Just replace it and secure it back in the old location on the existing "Witness mark".

Next issue- It took me about 3 years to figure this one out- If the door is still hard to close.

Go to Lowes, or wherever, and buy a long 3/8" x 16 bolt, NUT AND WASHER, as long as they have- 6" or so. Remove you existing door striker bolt and screw this bolt in about 3/4" and run the large washer and nut down as a "JAM NUT". Tighten it securely. Now get up as high as you can in the doorway and sight down this bolt- It should be "exactly" parallel (by your eye) to the steps- If it is not, Get a hammer and gently "persuade" the jam to "get parallel"!

You should be good to go now-

I've gotten to be "theoldusedbear" of the door bolt issue- . Someone else can explain that comment.

Good luck,

What is the reason for the Scan Gauge board update???

I did some searching of the forum for Scan Gauge board update and can't find info on this. My SG II is two yrs old and was wondering if I need the change.

Thanks guys,
Bill

Send a message via AIM to oemtech
The new firmware upgrades the menu's, adds a couple std gauges and performance monitoring. SG II Update

Be aware that I will reprogram it with EOP and the other gauges. If you have added or modified any gauges please note that so I can return your SG II as it was when you sent it in.

Max, many thanks for keeping up with making bolts for Omey to distribute. We got one a couple of years ago, and we love it! No more catching your sleeve when climbing in and out. I plan to place another order with Omey as soon as we get to our winter stop in Florida, and I'm going to request a second bolt for the driver's door.

Paz-

Your very welcome. Thanks for the kind words-

That OEMY guy comes through with so many great ideas.

I knew he would come through-
He kicks in like a "Hard-Light Afterburner " in the 'ole fighters I flew-. The "Thudman", on this forum, can explain what that means to you younger folks- Right "Will Snell?

Cheers,

Max, I'd like to get another one of your door bolts pls. If you do not still have my address, PM me.

The J-57 on the F-100 definitely had a hard light AB. And at High Alfa you could expect compressor stalls with explosions that would lift your feet off the rudder pedals and make fire come out of the nose and aft section. After landing you had to change your shorts.

Will-

Ah yes, the memories-.
I've had the same compressor stall in the "Deuce" (F-102, also the J-57) on a scramble in Germany when I tangled with a thunderstorm on departure leg, it got real dark, then "WHAM" and fire shot out the intakes-both sides of the cockpit- and enveloped the canopy- It knocked my feet off the rudder pedals too, and I thought I just blew up. A ball of fire was all around me. Then everything was back to normal. My wingman had aborted on the ground- lucky fellow!

Sure, on the new bolt. please send me a PM for your address and give me the length (closest 1/16") of the existing bolt- from the large washer to the END of the hex head.

I guess your still in South Carolina--

PS: Newer jet engines with afterburners have "soft lights" meaning they have a "variable stage", a fairly wide range of selective power, rather than a "blast in the A--"!
A real thrill must have been in the B-58, Hustler, with 4, J-79's equipped with 4 stage afterburners- Same engine as in the F-104's.

Cheers,

Thank you Max!

I'm going to check the two items you mentioned and see if that doesn't fix my door alignment.

xctraveler-

Take my word for it--

That OEMY is like a "hard lighting afterburner".

He's just like the 'ole J-57- he goes from "Military power" of 11700 lbs of thrust to
"full Afterburner power" of 17,200 lbs of thrust- in one second!

cheers-
