I have a loud scraping noise coming from under my motorhome when in motion. Fellow RVers at parks have commented on it. I have taken the wheel covers off and lubed the u-joints but the noise is still there. I suspect it is coming from the parking brake drum and shoes. I do not have an autobrake and have to manually push the parking brake pedal next to the steering column. Has anyone had problems with the drum and shoe mechanism. I'm taking the coach to Relands Truck tomorrow to have it taken care. Any information would be appreciated. I've researched this subject and found an old post, but there never was a remedy posted.

Could be something rubbing, check that first. Examples that I have seen are, mud flaps, inner liner of wheel well, stuck branches or debris, ect...

I've been under the motorhome numerous times inspecting all the possibilities and found nothing unusual. Like Driver said in a related post, Redlands Truck will find the problem. Thank goodness they're only 14 miles from my house. I'll post the remedy when it's fixed.

Funny you should ask 4Fun. I picked up the motorhome from Redland's Truck today. The noise was a bad carrier bearing. Since there are two, I had the second one replaced as a preventative measure. Keith said this was a very rare thing to happen. I have 42,000 miles on the motorhome.

Looks like Topflite51 diagnosed your problem. We had a funny noise when the coach went in reverse there was all kinds of noise. Since the coach is new and under warranty, the dealer searched high and low looking for the strange noise. They removed the flat panel TV and searched behind everything. Nothing found. DH figured it out... the backup camera was picking up road noise and other sounds as it went into reverse ! Silly to be sure but at least it was nothing of major consequence. Your problem sounded expensive.

Oh yes, the backup camera will pick up a lot of sound if the volumn is turned up. I use the sound from the backup camera to make sure my tow arms for my toad lock in. I have a Blue Ox tow bar and often have to hook up by myself. I turn on the override button of the backup camera so it displays while pulling forward and turn the sound up. When hooking the tow bar up to the toad usually only one of the bars will lock in place. I then pull forward very slow and listen for the "Click" which indicates the second tow bar has locked in place. Works like a charm.
