My motorhome's "Service Engine Soon" light come on returning from on a trip to the farm show in Louisville. I installed Omey's scan guage and it show one DTC P0327, knock sensor(1) low input. I reset the code and drove it for about ten miles and it did not come back on.

My son-in-law was driving and I was not with him. I had traveled by my toad to Frankfort alone. He has a heavy foot and I was wondering if having "the pedal to the metal" could cause this code.

p0327 comes up when the output of the KS is LOWER than spec. I doubt that hard driving would produce a LOW output - If anything, it might be HIGH.

KS failures are common. I wouldn't worry unless it repeats a few times. Usual strategy is to set ignition timing to a "Base Map" when a failure is detected. Might drop your fuel mileage a bit, but otherwise shouldn't create any problems.

I wonder if bad fuel and a heavy load could also produce this code.

If the problem reoccurs first check the knock sensor connector. If the connector is clean and secure, replacing the knock sensor. I'm sure it has nothing to do with a led foot.

Where is the sensor located? If it needs to be replaced is it easily done?

The knock sensors tend to be temperamental. You could also check that it is torqued to specification (15 ft. lbs.).

They are located on the side of the block
