EGR Pipe bandaid

When removing the stock parts in preparation for installing Banks Torque Tube headers, the driver side manifold was so rusty that removing the EGR pipe without damaging the threaded components was impossible.

After getting the Banks headers on, I looked everywhere to find the 2 adapters that screw into the EGR valve and the manifold plus the pipe itself.
Couldn't find them anywhere and the local Chevy dealer looked them up for me and priced the 3 items at $585.

I was able to fab up something that would hold me over until I could get those parts by selling one of my children (ha ha). Here's a pic of what I came up with.

I started the MH and ran it for a while to see if I got a check engine light. So far, nothing and it runs pretty good. Don't know how long the teflon tape on the threads will last but it's only a temporary fix.

Well that's an awesome fix you have done there, hopefully it will last, not sure if the heat will mess with that tubing.

How much did the dealer want for the 2 threaded adapters?

Don't get the EGR pipe from them, get it on amazon or rock auto.

Let us know when you take her out for a spin, make sure you buckle up with all that extra horse power

Thanks CJ. I bit the bullet and ordered the 2 adapters and a pipe. Got 1 adapter from Chevy dealer for $166 plus shipping, then found a place online where I could get the other for $114 plus the pipe for $125 so ordered them and can get rid of the bandaid.
(The chevy dealer wanted $585 for 3 parts)

glad you didn't pay the $585, that's just ridiculous

EGR Bandaid removed

Got my adapter and EGR pipe in the mail today, installed it, fit like brand new. (It IS)

Also got a Panlong mini OBDII scanner. Used it with Torque Pro. Love it...

Having trouble sending a picture from my phone so maybe tomorrow.

Took the MH for a test drive yesterday, seemed to run a LITTLE better then when climbing a hill, it started to chatter and shake. Back home, bought a new set of plugs gapped them to .045 and when replacing the old ones, found one of them had a cracked insulator. With the new plugs in, took it for a 130 mile test drive and it drives SWEET!!!
Good acceleration, runs cooler, hardly ever downshifts. I think it's a keeper...
