During our last trip I suspected a problem with my electric fans. I heard an occassional bearing squeal and when investigating one fan had the odor of burned electrical component. I searched this forum and found some were replacing dead fans with the Hayden 3680 but had to swap the motor to the existing shroud. I checked my fans with an external 12VDC and neither fan ran. I saw a reference that when starting the engine the ECM cycled the fans. I checked my electrical connections and never had 12V when starting or turning on the AC. I let it idle for ten or fifteen minutes and I DID get 12V at both plugs. I puchased two Hayden 3680 fans at Pep Boys for fifty bucks each with an old fart discount. I did not have to swap the motors because they were a perfect fit on my W24. Pep Boys has a life time warranty on the fans so hopefully this is one time purchase. One of the OEM fans was seized tight. The other was not but I bench tested it again and it wouldn't run. Seems strange both fans were dead but it is what it is.

Thanks for sharing. Did you get the fans locally?

I did get them locally. The Pep Boys in Orange Park, Florida had two 3680's in stock and I purchased them both. They had other Hayden fans as well. I looked at the 3670 but it was a ten inch fan where the 3680 is a twelve inch. I also saw fans (not Hayden) on EBAY that looked like they would work at half the price or less but didn't want to take the chance they wouldn't work. This forum again made this repair something I could do myself. Thanks

I was a little premature explaining how well this repair went. I had only installed one fan when I made my original post. This morning I tried to install the second fan. It wouldn't fit. I uninstalled the first fan to see what the difference was. It was a different fan. I called Hayden it seems they buy from different vendors and the fans can have minor differences. I called other area Pep Boys and found another fan like the one that fit. The Manufacturer's PN on the one that fit was: 14-4911B2 although that number meant nothing to Pep Boys or Hayden. On the back of the fan blade was (TRIPAC). That is the brand of the OEM fans I was replacing. Hayden told me TRIPAC is one of their vendors. A pain in the arse but these days most things are.

Thanks for sharring these part numbers with us. I expect that Oemy might add these to his cross over data base on his website.

I replaced one of my fans and did need to install the new fan into the old frame. Having said that, it is a very easy job to perform the swap.

Joe, when I saw that one of the two fans wouldn't fit, I figured I'd also just swap the motor from the new shroud to the old one. The motor mounted just fine but the old fan assemply would not fit on the shaft of the new motor and the new fan assembly was too big for the old shrould. The motor shaft was a different size amoung other differences. I read a lot of folks here DID swap the motors but it wouldn't work with what I had. I suppose it could be an issue with the vendor Hayden used for a particular batch of their fans.

I changed my fan just a year ago so I can only say that I used the fan others on this site suggested. I do know I purchased it at an Auto Zone. Having said that I guess things do change with time.
