Simple question what kind of coolant is recomended for wk 8.1.
Feel silly asking this but some coolant is not recomended for all engine blocks.

Thanks Dagger

Yours most likely came with Dexcool Extended Life 5yr-150,000 mile antifreeze. You can stay with that but I would monitor it closely and change before the recommended time/mileage. I changed ours last year before going to the national rally as it appeared to be getting rather putrid looking.

Make sure that your radiator cap works well.

In adding Dexcool to your radiator either buy the 50% mix OR buy pure Dexcool and cut it with equal parts of distilled water. Add the coolant via the radiator cap opening and make sure the level is all the way up to the top. Add coolant to the recovery bottle up to the hot line.

After you run the vehicle for a while, the level in the recovery bottle will stabilize. The coolant should level in between the cold and hot mark. Keep an eye on it and if it looks the same in the mornings your system is full and very happy. If you don't see any coolant, add more to the recovery bottle until the level stabilizes. If that's not working you have a leak in the system which will require a little more investigation.
