After getting fuel an engine light appeared.
I tested the fuel cap and it was bad,I replaced the fuel cap but the light still on. Could an O2 sensor be damaged? Are they easy to id?

Thanks, Pete

Pete,

You may have to reset the ECM to let it know that you fixed the cap.

If it was a Chrysler you could just tick the ignition key off and on a few times and the trouble code would display in the digital odometer and you would not have to guess. Chryslers have worked this way since the early 70's beeping out the trouble codes back then.

A cheap code reader such as this on from Harbor Freight should tell you the error code making the light come on and allow you to reset it:

As I recall it takes two or maybe three cool to hot cycles with no repetition of the fault sensed for the light to reset itself.

There are two pins on the OBD connector that can shorted together to reset the light but I don't remember which ones. Maybe someone else will know.

You can also disconnect the battery for a few seconds and it will reset.

Resetting the codes the easy way would be to get a Scan Gauge II from Mike at Brazel's RV. I believe that he has them priced pretty much the same as if you were to buy it direct.

Get all the info about what's going on under the doghouse and reset codes if they pop up. Resetting a code on the other hand is a double edge sword. If the code is reset and you go to a service center then they have noting to work with.

Thank you all for your quick replies. You were all helpful. I think I will wait for 3 or 4 cool and hot recycle of the codes and see if it will clear it out. I will not try to reset it myself,as Driver stated, it will be hard to identify the problem.I will give an update when resolved.
Okay, another ????? related to this problem.
Does anybody know if the part number for the fuel cap is the same as a GM part? I talked to workhorse and 2 people told me different.
I contacted a Workhorse dealer to order the fuel cap and the number they have is the same as a GM part number. To order from Workhorse it would take 2 weeks and $50. I bought one for $25 at the local GM dealer and it is installed .
Do I have the right fuel cap ?

Thank you, Pete

</div></BLOCKQUOTE>Pete, It's GM's emission control system of which the gas cap is a component so I am thinking that they gave you the right cap. Could you share with us your year, make, chassis type and model?

Thanks again. The coach is a 2004 Adventurer,
38g model, on a W-22 Workhorse chassis.
The fuel cap GM part#25757560, it would be great to verify that I have the right part.

Thaks, Pete

I use to turn the check engine light off just by disconnecting the battery for a min. or 2.
Seems I tried this with my MH and it did;nt work. It seems the computer would lose it's memory if the battery was disconnected. Maybe Driver know if there is another small battery built into the computer.
