I used the OEM metal boot covers that were on the OEM wires when I installed the new Taylor Extremes...no problems..

Send a message via AIM to oemtech
If you look real close you will find that the plug wire ends are the same on both the OEM and Taylor wires. Therefore you just slip the metal cover off the OEM boot and put it on the Taylor wire before you install it.

Before using the original metal sleeve, take a look inside. If it is orange they are OK to use. If it is black replace it with a new one.

I just put the shields back on when I put the Taylors on. I'm interested in full-timers comment on "orange OK, black replace". Mine were just the color of the metal, kinda dull silver. If I remember there was some kind of high temperature paper insulating sleeve inside the metal sleeve. Is the orange your referring to the paper?

Orange = rust or corrosion

Black=Arching and burning.

NOTE: Black can also mean "Greasy" so clean them first.

The material is a Mica electrical insulator. It should be orange in color. If it has turned black or maybe even silver it had been overheated and has lost some or all of its insolating factor.

Perhaps one of the plugs will be wet. I have heard of plugs being changed and a boot was not properly installed and the plug misfired. It's happened to pros so shade tree guys are not invulnerable to this happening.

If this process yields no obvious results a shop with appropriate instruments can immediately rule out if there is an electrical problem. Ruling that out one can seek alternate solutions by means of a diagnostic table.
