Getting a high pitch whine from the engine compartment........it's barely audible, but is there. I don't remember hearing it before. It changes with rpm's...........if I had to guess, I'd say it sounds like an accessory bearing.........anyone have any ideas? Would I be better off taking it to workhorse center (45 miles away) or a Chevrolet dealer (1 mile away) Thanks for the help.

Call the Chevy dealer first and find out if they can accommodate a motorhome. They would be a good resource for you if they will work with you. The engines are sold to Workhorse and GM/Chevrolet loose all warranty links to the engine unless they are also a Workhorse dealer.

Using your zip code you may be able to find a closer center on workhorse.com.

I wouldn't go to either.

Seeing you're out of warranty I'd go to a large truck garage.

This is where I get my service.

If whine cycles on and off with AC it could be a failing, dragging AC clutch or bearing that you hear when AC is off. When AC is on a failing or improperly charged compressor can whine. If AC mode does not alter whine lift the serpentine belt and check for "dry" alternator or idler wheel bearings. Good luck!!

Brian--

Have you had any alternator work done lately? I had one changed out in my older Chevy PU. The new alternator whines terribly-- nothing like the original one. I took it back and they changed it out with another one-- I watched them do it. Same problem.

You could remove the fan belt, start it for a few seconds, and isolate the sound to the belt driven items VS internal concerns.

Good luck

Make sure your not really hearing the "whine" over the radio. You may/will hear some whine if not tuned to a strong station.

Mine also has this whine but it doesn't go completly away. You can hear it change pitch when you stepon the brake while the engine is idleing.

Called the local Chevrolet dealer, which use to be a workhorse service center. They said they don't work on workhorse, because they can't get parts from workhorse. I said I believe it's the engine, and they replied they prefer not to work on it, because if it's something else they aren't a workhorse dealer and can't get parts. They recommended taking it to the closet workhorse dealer.
