FWIW, I think the SG II only displays the info available at the OBD II connector. I doubt it has ANY ability to verify if the info it receives is accurate.
repeating myself here, but I like and monitor mine all the time. IMO, it works as advertised. Ed

There are many threads here about that very subject. Search for one by OEMY. He SELLS the SG II, and does so because he believes it to be the superior unit. I agree that may cause you to think his opinion is biased, but Dale is a long-time and trusted supporter here, and his website is a valuable resource to Workhorse owners. There are 2 temp senders one in each head on sends temps to the guage the other sends to the ECM...I know that is the way the 454 works so thinking the 8.1 could be the same

My UltraGauge tells me the actual temperature the engine computer is using to adjust parameters.
The Workhorse dash needle pretty much just stays at the same place all the time regardless of the coolant temperature.
Going over the Grapevine the outdoor temperature was about 100 degrees and I had a tailwind, not good for cooling.
The needle just barely moved towards hot and the UltraGauge showed 238 degrees. I pulled off at the top and let things cool a bit.
I couldn't comment on which gauge is better as I've only used the UltraGauge.

edgray, thanks for the suggestion to search for the ScangaugeII vs ultra guage. I have ordered a ScangaugeII from oemy.

I see you ordered a scanguage for checking codes and such, I use a Bluetooth OBII connector and Torque plus app on my phone...It shows alot of the parameters you need to see and real time data

Arch: as you may know, that "gage" is programmed by WCC to almost always point to normal.

FYI
The temperature will not change with pressure, the boiling point changes and when it boils over you lose coolant and the temp cannot exceed 212°F until the coolant is lost but with a 14 lb cap the boiling point is raised and the coolant cannot escape as the temp goes over 212°F.

With a 15 psi cap and 50/50 antifreeze mix the boiling point of your coolant is abiut 264 degrees Fahrenheit.
