Well I am still looking for the culprit of the engine sutter/ surging that is occurring on my 2002 Airstream (8.1). It is so frustrating because it does not do it all the time. The condition seems to exist at low rpm (1500-2000). Accelerating very slowly from a stop on a slight grade the engine will lunge or surge repeated. It will not do it every time, but it seems to be becoming more frequent. If you accelerate very aggressively the engine does not miss a beat.

This is what I have done so far. I replaced the plug wires with Taylors and changed the plugs. Four the plugs had a lot of deposits on them. More than what I would have expected. The fuel filter was changed. Any suggestions as to where to look next?

At this point I would suggest a service center equipped with a Tech II instrument to scan for codes and or to perform diagnostics on your ECM. What you have most likely is an electrical component anomaly which presents random or no problems. Without the correct instruments, finding a problem of this nature can be difficult & then there's no guarantee that they will find it on the first go round.

Things that they might check would be throttle position sensor and or throttle activation control. TAC & TPS.

Chech the idle air controler or the gasket between the throtle plate and the manifold. Also check for vac. leakes or calapsed vac. hoses.

Try updating the ECM with the latest GM software. This may cure your complaint. You can always send your ECM to us and we'll upgrade it with UltraPower & the newest stuff at the same time.

I think DriVer has some good advice. You can throw a lot of money at it trying this and trying that.

Were the 4 plugs on one bank of the engine? If they were you could have a bad/intermittent O2 sensor on that bank.

I think Driver has it right, get some one to scan the codes and find out if there isn't some info that will point you down the right road.
