I am the new owner of a 08 Fleetwood Terra LX 34 on a workhorse w-22 chassis. From the time I drove It home from the dealer it has had what I would describe as a Rocker or lifter "tick" on the pass side of the engine. It seems to run fine , but during idle it has a very distinctive "tick" for lack of a better term. The coach barely has 900 miles on it . I guess my question is Is this normal for the chevy engine OR do I need to take it to my local workhorse dealer aka Redlands Truck and Rv and have it checked out?

Just went through this with our Chev. Tahoe. It was a bad bearing in the belt idler pully. Replaced two pulleys all is well.
I hope this helps.

Frank, I too hear a tick at idle but on drivers side. Was there damage before it was fixed, under warranty? Pls give more detail.

When I bought my 2 year old,18000 mile used 2004 Sightseer,I heard the same thing.Told the dealer I wanted it fixed.Dealer is a workhorse shop. They put on a new belt,(?)100 miles later, same tick.2nd fix,new belt(?)and a new belt tensioner.5 miles later, heard the belt come apart on way home.Looked under engine and saw a piece of the belt (side piece)under there.Went back to the dealer.I thought I had a pully out of alignment.3rd fix Dealer put on a new belt and another tensioner.Came back from a 400 mile trip and had the same tick again. All this was done under waranty, but I was disgusted with the dealer at this point.Finaly went to another dealer, not a workhorse shop. They put on new belt and tensioner at my expense.Went to florida and back with no problems or noises!Go figure,Maybe there are a lot of bad tensioners out there.I thought for sure I had a pully that was out of alignment,A/C,power Steering, water pump or alternator. They all have v-shaped pullies, where the tensioner is flat faced because it rides on the top, flat part of the belt.
Anyway,my bet is the tensioner!

Whaler, is it possible one of shops used another aftermarket product, and the other used Delco parts?

Don't know Fred.I never asked for the old parts.Warranty parts that get replaced under warranty usualy go back to the manufacturer to see why they failed. To be honest though,I did not trust the 1st shop, even if they were a W/H shop.
Before they did the third fix,I called W/H to see what they thought.I gave them my serial # and he said that nothing came up on my coach as having been replaced.I don't know why that is,maybe the info takes time to filter down to my folder, who kows?OR maybe I was being BS'ed??????I was just glad to get it fixed.

I guess I should say this. The tick I heard was like rythmick, maybe a second or two between ticks ,siting at a red light. And when I would pull away from the light,it would speed up and go away, and not be heard at speed.
There is an old trick for fan belts. You take a wax candle and rub it on both sides of the v-belt,and it will quiet it down. Now days they have spray cans of belt dressing that do the same thing.I'm not saying they did that,

Hello,

My 2006 Holiday Rambler Vacationner had this same ticking sound. Usually only noticeable just after starting or while under heavy load. Problem was the exhaust manifold gasket had a leak and needed replacing. Soon after that was replaced, the dealer found that the right hand side exhaust manifold had a minor, but long crack. Two days in the shop and 1 month on the dealer lot and the problem was fixed.(for now)...

The mechanic who worked on my unit says that the 8.1L engine is prone to exhaust gasket/manifold failure...Not something to look forward to when out of warranty...

My 2005 WH22 with the 8.1 has a tick at idle and went through and found that it is my injectors. The tick goes away if I idle it up. I used the stethescope type device to hear all around and that is the only place it was ticking. I will have to keep an eye on the tensioner, as I have seen those go bad.
