I have a 2000 Damon Daybreak 7.4 Petrol engine and I have got a water leak when the engine is COLD after its been running and gets hot it stops. Its coming from the passenger side, top of the engine, it looks like its coming out of the Inlet manifold gasket.
I live in the UK as the garages are so far away I have to do most of my repairs myself.
Looking at my Repair Manual its says to remove, serpentine belt , A/C compressor, fuel rail and distributor shaft. Is this all necessary to remove or is there an easier way?
It also states that the gaskets are reusable.
Has anyone else had this problem, any help would be appreciated.

Mick

Mick, if you haven't already, check the tightness of the intake manifold bolts. If you can borrow a radiator pressure tester hand pump, the kind used to check radiator caps, do so and pump your system up to about 15 - 17 pounds when cold. Check to see exactly where coolant is leaking from before doing anything drastic.

Hi Dieselclacker
Many thanks for your reply I will try that. My other concern is can the water get into the engine internally through the inlet manifold gasket?
Mick.

Mick.

Pull the oil dip stick and check for signs of glycol on the stick. If the intake gasket is leaking glycol can enter the crankcase.

Do as "Dieselclacker" suggested perform a cooling system pressure test, if you are lucky the leak is only external.

Good luck.
