I have a 2005 Allegro Bay 37DB with the workhorse chassis, 8.1L. I have 45,500 miles on it and have just started to notice that when I initially start it up it sounds as though there is a hole in the exhaust. As it warms up it seems to go away , not sure what is going on. Yesterday when I took it out to dump the tanks it did it and then as I was going to the dealer to dump the noise subsided. After dumping (25 minutes) and started it back up the noise was back and then went away after warming up. I have crawled under the coach to check the exhaust system and all seems ok. I have not had a chance to check the exhaust manifolds to see if there is a problem there. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Sorry this got a little winded.

The Bay I, What you have is a leaking exhaust manifold gasket. "Guaranteed!" Fix that and that noise will go away. I did the right side on my engine and that fixed the start-up exhaust leak.

It's a straight forward job however manifold studs may get broken so I would opt for a professional repair or having access to the tools and specialists to remove broken studs. My studs were removed with the head remaining in place by a specialty welder. This saved time and expedited the repair.

On an equivalent V10 Ford issue that needed to have the manifold removed, several studs were broken as well. It's easy to do no matter how careful you are.

Thanks Driver, I'll make an appointment with my WH Dealer. Just had my recall done on the brakes, too bad it didn't happen at that time.
