Well Workhorse strikes again!!!
I have had a number of calls/inquires about the fan clutch. We have looked at every number, paint dob, hole size you name to find an xref. But, nothing is an exact fit.
It seems that the fan clutch and 7 blade fan are proprietary to Workhorse just like the fuel filter. This is a Delphi only part. You will not find it at any autoparts store and there is no xref to any GM part we know of.

I believe there is more than one fan clutch used by WCC. I think later model chassis have a different clutch than early models. Ed

ED, Although I can't confirm this, (but I will), when they changed the cool pack in 2006, (single fan) I expect that it may have called for a different fan clutch.

Mike: ALL I know is that my 09 chassis is MUCH quieter than was the 03. When I "complained" to the RSMs at Perry that I had never heard the fan roar I was accostomed to, and therefore assumed it was not working properly, I was told the "new" cool pack (without the electric fans) got a different ratio clutch and the fan was turning slower which reduced the noise level. I think they said something about different blade angle too, but I'm not sure about that.
I watch the water temp on my Oemy programmed SGII, and have never seen 204*, so it must be working good...and the quiet is amazing. ED

Hi Ed; On my 2 fan 04 chassis, SGII has shown 207 degrees a couple of times, mainly going up long grades but it always immediately goes back down to normal (200-202) after the fans roar to life. Oemy did my programming as well.

I was thinking of something else. The new cool pack doesn't have fans.
If anyone want to read more about it, here's an article I put up way back in 2006.
New Cool Pack

YES, Bob, that was my experience as well with the 03 W-22. My clutch would engage when the temp got to 206 or so, and I've seen over 210* frequently going up western grades, but it cools back down to the normal 200-202 pretty quickly, and the roar is no more. The 09 chassis MAINTAINS the temp around 202 going up the grades, but it does so without the roar.

In this general discussion, for those who have replaced the tuba air intake, with a different CAI, have you seen any difference in the amount of time the clutch fan comes on? I have mixed feelings about the CAI, but one thing I don't like is the amount of congestion in front of the cool pack. A CAI would remove the tuba, I suppose the chassis battery could be moved, just haven't figured out where yet, but the HWH pump assembly would be pretty difficult to move.
On a Pace Arrow we had previously on the P30, I boxed in the area below the grill, so that less air could escape out the bottom, it made a big difference on how much time the clutch fan ran, (BTW it was a lot louder than the one on the Workhorse). Going up I-5 in the summer in the central valley, with temps in the 107-110 range, that clutch was engaged almost all the time, after I boxed it in, and if I held my speed at 65-67, the clutch fan came on very little. (at a slower speed, it did, this was one case where running faster probably helped MPG, not needing to run the clutch fan)
I've thought about doing the same on the Workhorse with an air scoop below the front bumper facade, but the frame arrangement precludes much air getting up to the cool pack .

IMHO, there is plenty of air getting thru the grill without the use of an air deflector being necessary. The problem is getting relatively cool air to the radiator core. With the stackup of the coolpack the radiator is the last priority for air, with the A/C condenser, aux cooling fans, trans cooler, engine oil cooler and power steering cooler not only blocking the air flow from the grill but heating the air before it goes thru the radiator core. Amazing to me that it does as well at cooling the engine as it does. I think the real answer would be a re-arrangement of all these coolers to allow more and cooler air to pass thru the radiator. I understand from Edgrays previous post that Workhorse has improved the air flow some in later models.

DC: Actually, it was DriVer who provided the link to the info about the "new" cool pack...introduced back in 07, I think.........My post was regarding the later models getting a "different" fan clutch, which was the subject of this thread. My point is that there may be different clutch part numbers for different model year chassis. Ed

The bottom line is.... The clutch fans and fan blade assembly is propritary to Workhorse. If anyone can come up with xref of one the fits properly I will buy them a free BBQ dinner at Meyer's or South Side Market or Louie Mueller's.

Have you tried the online Delphi catalog, don't remember website. Possibility?

I have and that is why I started this thread.... It is a Delphi ONLY part according to my source. The Delphi part does not cross to any GM or AC Delco parts as it is non-standard spec part.
