1st time poster. Long time reader/watcher.
Here is the story. Sorry for the length
I have a 2009 Monaco Safari Simba with Workhorse chassis. (1 ½ year old). Prior to RV being put in storage, Nov. of last year, I thought I noticed a small gasoline spot on the ground under the coach. At that time I was unable to find or see anything leaking from the RV. Once a month I would drive the RV home to charge the batteries and run the generator and never noticed anything leaking. This past weekend I picked up the RV, filled it with gas and took it home to de-winterize. As the RV was sitting at the house I began to smell gas and noticed gas leaking from the gas tank onto the ground. I grabbed several buckets in an attempt to catch some of the gas. As the first 5 gallon bucket began to fill I got nervous about what I was going to do with 75 gallons of gas. After I called the fire department and they arrived the leak began to slow down and finally stopped after losing approximately 6-7 gallons of gas. Upon investigation I found the leak to be coming from a hose at the top of the gas tank. Attached by hose clamp to the tank was a short hose approximately 4” long and 1/34” in size with a plug in the end. Apparently the tank has two of these nipples, one on each side of the tank to accommodate the manufacturer’s choice of fill tubes. (left or right side of coach). After some difficulty removing the hose I discovered that the hose was not a gasoline rated hose and had all but disintegrated. I confirmed my suspicions at a hose supply shop and replaced it with a gasoline rated hose. I hate to think what a spark from the generator or elsewhere might have done…I would like to make Workhorse aware of this because I don’t believe I am the only one who had an incorrect hose installed. I have called Workhorse. No response as of yet.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Gary

Gary, About 2 years ago I had my gas tank replaced. When I left the center and came home, I was able to smell gasoline so I brought it back. The tank was lowered again and checked. The tank was restored and the dealer said they filled the tank but they got the smell back so they lowered the tank again.

The alternate fill plug was the culprit although it was difficult to trace once they knew what it was the fix was straight forward and it hasn't leaked since.

The incident that you are reporting is something that I have personally experienced however it's not so prevalent among the other members here. Your experience should offer the members here another information resource in the event a leak develops that is not immediately evident.

Not certain that ethonal caused your problem but those of us with boats in the south have found in warm weather that it will destroy poor rubber products. Gas lines, washers and gaskets.
