Need additional details to get better answers. Which WH model? Assuming ford F53 since you commented V10. And for what years, as WS has not been made for several years while Ford F53 is still current production with ongoing changes/improvements.

I suspect the engine / transmission combinations of both manufactures has generally been robust with good quality, good workmanship.
Disregarding personal preferences, I don't see any differences in either of the manufactures.

I think the main difference would be personnel preference, I have always liked Chevy v.s. Ford, but if I found an RV that I really liked and it was a Ford I would purchase it.
Some people in the Ford chassis forum are having issues with the new 6 speed, the tow/haul is not working as it suppose to.. and Ford is being ignorant about the issue, although the 5 star tune has corrected the issue.
I have a Workhorse, and really enjoy it, I just wish they were still being made.

A couple of thousand $ more for the WH chassis. When WH was in business, you could get the Allison 1000 or 2500 transmission in 5 or 6 speeds.

Workhorse quit making RV chassis in 2011.
Workhorse has the Allison transmission. Ford came out with a 6 speed in 2016.
Ford V10 has to rev higher than the 8.1 giving you more noise.
Most owners with Fords have added anti sway bars or sumo springs to improve the handling.
A lot of Ford owners have added the Banks Power system for more power.

I think the last 8.1 engine left the Tonawanda NY Chevrolet plant in 2008 (?), with Workhorse using their on hand stock of engines until 2011.
The Sumo springs, etc. are a response to the Ford chassis handling, not the engine. Of course, you can't get one without the other....
I recall reading that GM claimed the service life of the 8.1 was 200,000 miles in RV use. True? Urban legend?

I believe the 8.1 Vortec has a higher and flatter torque curve. Hard to beat displacement. The Allison is a super transmission.

Ford has consistently used the V-10 since sometime in the late 1990's in all their motor home chassis. There are 3 valve and version 2 valve versions. The one you get depends on the base chassis.
FWIW I would not use words like "most" with chassis mods or problems. There are a great many chassis out there but relatively few spend the extra money to modify them. I'm not knocking the modifications just point out that most folks run stock for any vehicle while some folks stop at the toy store on the way home from the dealer. ;-)
FWIW2 I have yet to drive the 6 speed but I did some probing of expectations on that thread. Without throwing rocks I think anyone who reads the whole thing will find out that there are several different sets of expectations for tow/haul. That leaves the question open about just what the problem is assuming there is one. My point of view is that there would be a lot more people complaining if they all had a problem. OTOH there are enough out there that I would be surprised if there are not a few with faulty programming or sensors that do not show up with normal diagnostics. It's the nature of heavily computer controlled setups.

I recently postponed a purchase for a new motor home on a FORD chassis for several technical reasons including the lack of grease fittings on the FORD universal joints.
Decided to travel some more in our Workhorse P32 with about 150,000 miles and keep on greasing.

I think both platforms are good ones though for me the clincher would be the transmission attached to the engines. So I guess the Workhorse with Allison would be my choice, but if I found the perfect coach, I would be happy with either.
We did find the perfect coach for us and it came with the W22 so a happy camper all around.

If you buy the Ford, be sure to buy an extra supply of doors. You will need them to replace the ones blown off by all the Workhorse owners as they motor on by you. .

I am always courteous and slow down when I pass an RV on a Ford chassis. I don't want to blow them off the road.
