Since I started searching for a Class A RV about two weeks ago, Ive learned an awful lot about things here. I am an experienced forum member on RV.Net, and know you have to take all critical posts with a huge grain of salt.

Nonetheless, I am a little concerned at the RV we're inspecting this weekend, a 2005 Bounder 34F on a 2004 Workhorse W22 chassis.

I've never been a huge maintenance person on an RV chassis except to change the oil/filter every 3000 miles or start/end of the seasons.

I've downloaded the WH Gas MH Chassis Guide and don't see anything too alarming, so we're going forward in our search, hoping for the best.

If we do purchase this RV this weekend, we would be driving it home 580 miles Monday. I doubt these owners ever had it weighed, maybe not even front end aligned, so my question is, do I run the tire pressures at the 95psi front and 90psi rears as specified by WH?

I'm not sure which question you are asking comparing the title of the post and your question in your post.

All motorhomes require maintenance. Workhorse chassis is no different than any other chassis in that respect. Your W-22 is a great chassis and you will like it.

I would also check and see if the brake recall and the fuel rail clip recall have been performed on this chassis....

Tire pressure is a question that will get you lots of answers. I run 95 in the front and 90 rears in my 3 slide 36' motorhome, and that seems about right for my Michelin 22.5 tires. I dont know what size tires you have (as some manufacturers put on 19.5 inch tires on the W-22) or what brand tires you have.

EDIT: I just read the "Workhorse Warrantee" thread and it scared me too!!! I haven't had any problems (except a couple of recalls, and they weren't problems per se')

Gerry don't give up on Workhorse. If you go with a gas motor home you have two choices, ford or Workhorse. Both have problems . I owned a ford before this workhorse I own now and I also had brake problems with the ford. It is a industry problem, their engineers need to get on the ball and made corrections. Brake problems has been going on for several years. I like the workhorse and I have had a bit of bad luck. The only problem I see is them not standing behind their warrenty. My MH has but 12000 miles on it and right now it is in the shop for brake problems and Workhorse will not pay for the repairs. At least not yet, I still am trying to get them do and before it is done I may have to go to small claims court or resort to other measures.

There are a lot of factors to look at... The dealer needs to do his job and properly start the delayed warranty. The WCC Service Centers need to do their job correctly. But, most important the OWNER needs to do his job... This includes maintenance, follow up to make sure the dealer and WCC are on the correct page. If you have an extended warranty I would not allow anyone but yourself to contact the company about repairs. This can be a real PITA but it will save you a lot of problems when trying to get a claim paid. There is nothing more frustrating when you have to pay up front and find out they did the work before it was approved either by you the OWNER, the OEM or the extended warranty supplier.

The tires ar 19.5" Goodyears, and this is also a three slide rig.

I hope this is a solid, easy maintenance chassis.

I'm contemplating an extended warranty on this rig, have one on my current Class C but have not had cause to try to use it yet...good advice!

I'm wondering if I am better served traveling a further distance for a WH service center that is truck related? The two local RV dealers that are authorized WH service centers have never instilled me with confidence that they really know what they are doing with RV service, let alone chassis service...

The info displayed above is available on the WCC website under the "service" tab. Please note WCC has provided a means by which owners can provide feedback relating to a dealer's performance. If we all used this "rate this dealer" function, perhaps that would help improve the dealer network. Its worth a try.ED

If you have extended warrantee and never used it maybe you have answered your own question. Read through this forum carefully and the other chassis forums also. From what I`m reading good shops may be hard to find in some areas and enough has been said about the parts situation.
I didn`t have too many issues when it was under warrantee but have had good and not so good luck at Workhorse service centers.
Take your time and make a careful, informed decision.

I agree with the first reply.. All motorhomes require attention from time to time and all of them have problems from time to time, I have seen some very high end rigs that have been plastered with photos and a service log and large pictures of lemons, I mean these were "Cadillac" grade rigs and they were lemons.. On the other hand I've seen a lot more that were not lemons.

I have decided customer service is the big thing and speaking for myself,, I get great service from Workhorse when I need it.

Course I live half way between the Workhorse HQ and the national service manager's house

I would rather put money in a "repair fund" than buy an extended warranty. 90+% of the time the only one that makes out is the warranty supplier.

OBTW - If you dig around the net you will find that the F53 chassis has the same problems.. Rusty caliper pins.

I think if you used an automobile like an RV you find that some of the same problems will pop up.

Thanks to all! I had the list of NJ Workhorse service centers, my question was would I have better "service" from a truck center versus an RV center? The two RV centers listed are pitiful performers in RV service, experienced firsthand.
