Hi, I recently noticed an indication of a leak from the front seal on our 08 workhorse chassis.

It is still under warrantee, can someone please indicate if this is something that needs immediate attention, should I clean it off and see if it continues to appear?

Thanks, Edouard.

That seal leak may have happened the first time the engine was run. It is of little consequence......but I would clean it with a degraser, keep an eye out for additional leakage and most important, make sure your dealer has a dated record and you have a copy and as soon as possible.

Thanks DriVer: Thanks for the heads up, I'll contact a local dealer tomorrow and try to get it done before we head south in early November. Thanks Again.

Interim update: Contacted local WH-GM truck center, appointment set for next Tuesday morning. Sent them e-mail with Vin# and my details to book it, along with the photo shown here.
Got a call back last night confirming he knew which part to order in advance, but that my warrantee was expired, huh, thought it was 5 years, nope only 3 and expired because original owner never requested a Delayed Start, so date start was day chassis was shipped from Workhorse.
So, 2 problems: 1) 3 vs 5 year Warrantee. 2) Delayed Start needs to be registered, per my owners manual, can be done.

First, I sent him another e-mail with a scan of the Warrantee for the Motorhome Powertrain, 5 year/100,000 miles. (USA & Canada)
He replied that he was waiting on a reply from the Eastern Canada WH rep.....
Hope to have this confirmed by tomorrow... Always something.

My take on this is their a big GM Truck center, and deal mainly with commercial truck warrantee work, they remain to be a 3 year warrantee, and not too many Motorhome Chassis.
More to follow when I hear!!!! Edouard.

See if you can get a copy of the original sales contract from the original owner. Send it to Workhorse and they will adjust your warranty.

Edouard, Your Rep is Eric McCaan and I expect he will review this case and present you with an answer.

In the latter years, GM did offer a 5 year 100,000 mile warranty on those engines and WCC placed this information on their marketing materials (brochures) as well. Exactly how your delay start of warranty works out for you being the second owner, I can not forecast.

I wish you the best as you pursue this case.

Yes, that is a possibility, I have found papers etc, below a center drawer section with the orig owners address etc.
We also did a Carfax search, and they report all previous three owners, with the Arizona Title number, the first owner registered the title on November 1,1007.
Workhorse original lst owner on this vin also reveiled his name.
So I have a few clues to chasing the Delayed/Start date.
Thanks.

My Rep: Eric McCaan,
Thank you DriVer, you are always so knowlegable and helpful.
Looking forward to getting the 5 year Warrantee acknowledged today, will post news hopefully soon. Edouard.
Regarding the Delay Start of Warranty is outlined as possible by Second owner in my Owners manual as possibility, I just need to know what parameters are needed to accomplish this. As mentioned above in reply to another poster suggesting to contact the lst owner, I also have the Titles of Arizona #'s, one being the Original owner, then an Auction house, or Bank Repo, not certain, and the third the dealer I bought it from. We'll see, it means extending the start coverage from May 24/07 to November 1/07. Thanks again. Edouard.

I would think that GM would fix this under goodwill, even if the warranty has expired. It looks like you have a bad harmonic balancer seal. Pretty easy fix. Remove the belts, balancer pulley, balancer bolt, then use a pulley remover tool for the balancer. Should be no more than an hour job.

If you look at your picture, you see white powder spots on the oil pan. Someone has used a strong caustic greaser to remove oil from the engine. It is possible that some of the caustic got to the seal to cause the leak!

Dirtbuster, Did you know that Workhorse buys these engines from GM and that anything after removeing the engine from its original shipping container is totally under the warranty administration of Workhorse Custom Chassis. GM does not have any further involvement with the engine unless WCC pursues some type of warranty adjustment with GM most recently; the fuel damper recall. That recall was on GM's dime.

Rec'd confirmation overnite, but really surprised it took the WH dealer 3 days to confirm what my Owners Manual outlined as my 07 Warrantee, oh well:

("Hi Mr Theriault. good news front crank seal is covered for 5years or 160900km. 2007 model year warranty is different from other years [longer]. Iam trying to get the seal for next week for your appointment. if there is a delay I will call beforehand.)

Then today:
("Hi Mr Theriault, I wont have the part [seal] for the oil leak before thursday morning next week. we will have to reshedule your appointment.)
So, it looks like it will be next thursday when I get this leak fixed, which is fine, we don't head south before the 5th of November. Thanks for the help all, Edouard.
