You must be right there, because I tried a while back, it was not allowed to be the last, and I'm certainly not brilliant. ED

This is a fuel filter tee mod I just finished. This is a test to see how my photo host site works.

How to make the fuel filter tee mod for total $9.79 without test parts. Test parts added $6.00, I already had a gauge and Schrader valve.
This is the whole sequence. First pic is the drain plug and the Saginaw fitting turned from it. 2nd is the old style filter cut to pieces.
3rd are the two nuts from the old style filter.
4th is the nuts and Saginaw fitting pressed into a 3/8" galvanized pipe tee which has been machined to fit. 5th is the tee brazed together and under test at 90# held for 24 hours. 6th is the painted tee by itself.

This is a test to see if anyone can follow the sequence.

Great Job, obbm, on the adapter and the pictures.
Dang!, I'm jealous, everybody's gettin one of these except me.
Even less demand for the oddball WH filter can only make them harder to find too.

Bill,
That is an outstanding piece of DIY Engineering.
I only just thought of 1 potential problem. You probably should have use "black pipe" instead of galvanized. The galvanizing might flake off and plug up the fuel rail or an injector.
Now that you have the picture thing started, you can go in and edit your post to fix any errors. Just login, and click of the little eraser icon. This will bring up the edit screen and allow you to make any changes necessary.

Thanks, Dale, for your encouragement all around. I used the galv tee because it was cheaper. It is only plated on the outside, and the brazing job burned it all off. Before painting I bead blasted it to get all the remaining oxides off. The beads cleaned it down to bare metal. Then a good coat of my favorite primer, NAPA zinc oxide primer, then GM red lacquer. The cast iron walls of the tee ar about 1/8" thick, and cast iron is very easy to braze. I undercut the fittings to get a heavy bead of brazing rod.

For those who don't feel warm and fuzzy doing the fuel line mod (afraid of future warranty issues) I read in a Luber-finer bulletin dated from January 2008 that they have started manufacturing fuel filters that cross ref the WH Part #W0004996. The Luber-finer part number is G2996. I don't know where they can be purchased yet bu maybe there is hope that the price will be a bit more reasonable. One can always hope.

The W0004996 are made by Luberfiner/Champion Labs. Might very well be the same filter under the 'G2996' number. But, if it was my vehicle, I'd make sure I had a paper trail of buying it under the WCC number during the warranty timeframe. Just in case.
