She's stuck on FULL! Left 10 days ago on a trip from Oklahoma to California, filled up 5 times and the gauge never moved from full. It did suddenly fall to Empty while traveling down I40. Heard the audible alarm, then within seconds it slowly rose to full again. Any thoughts on what I can check or where to start looking? She's got over 34000 miles and will be out of warranty before we get home to our Workhorse dealer. We are currently at least $150 in fuel away from the nearest Workhorse dealer so if anyone can help me find the problem, maybe I can order the part(s) and pick them up on the way home to Oklahoma. I'm handy with tools and have a voltmeter if that helps! Hope you all are enjoying your holidays.

Call workhorse and get it documented... I would also try to stop a Winnie Booger dealer and get it documented if possible.

You probaby have a sensor wire grounded to the frame a some other piece of metal. I would disconnect the wire that goes to the sensor back by the tank and see what the gauge does. If it stays reading full, I would think the wire is gounded some where on the way back to the tank unit. The next thing to do is to disconnect the sensor wire from the instrument cluster. I know this is impractacle to do because there at least 20 wires that plug into the cluster and you could not know which one to disconnect unless you have a factory shop manual. All the wires go into one large gang plug. If you are fortunate to have a factory manual, and you find the fuel gauge wire and you disconnect it and the gauge falls to E then you know the ground is in the long wire going back to the tank. I would look for damage to the loom and you will find your problem there. I also have looked at my own, and found a large group of wires. They are tough to check out but you can do it. You may also find the trouble right behind the cluster. I do not think the trouble is in the cluster because you said the gauge falls to E and then back to full.

Lee,
Thank you for all the detail.....exactly what I was looking for! I will check things out as best I can (don't have the factory manual). Enjoy the new year!
