Welcome to iRV2.com and the Workhorse forum in particular.
[moderator edit] To answer your question, anything better than 7MPG is considered exceptional, unless you have a light foot and a tail wind.

I've recorded every gallon over the past 80,000 miles and have averaged 7.1 mpg pulling a toad.

You can expect anything you want but you'll get what you get!
With our '98 Santara 35' w/460 I could easily get 5.5 and maybe 6.0 on a good day
We get 7.6 with our 45' 50,000# MH over the last 45,000 miles. It is what it is.

That depends on how you drivem where you drive and what you tow. Could be as low as 5 in the mountains and as high as about 10 on the flat roads. (according to the dashboard guage)
Personally, I don't keep track anymore. I love my RV and will drive it regardless. I have never not taken it out because of gas prices,.
Its a big ass gas engine pulling a big as RV around... its gonna be bad. It will never be good.

I have a 35ft. MH with the 8.1 and pulling a toad driving 65MPH I get just under 8MPG. If you add 10MPH it will cut that almost in half.

I get just over 8 MPG on an interstate and down to around 7 MPG on secondary roads as an average. I don't tow anything nor do I overload the MH. I run at 62-65 on the interstate and pass a few vehicles and have a few vehicles pass me.
When I see a long hill or grade coming up I may pick the speed up a little before I get there and let off the accelerator a bit and let the rig float over the hill. I don't like the transmission shifting down too low so the engine over revs. Traffic dictates how much you can vary speed. I try to blend in.
My MH has just over 29,000 miles on it and no special tune trickery. I didn't expect mileage comparable to a Prius.

For planning purposes use 7 MPG. You should get a few tenths more but the individual tank to tank number will vary greatly with road conditions, traffic, wind, how heavy your right foot is, coach loading (weight) and such. Very easy to loose or gain a mile or two per gallon between individual fill ups so don't jump for joy or panic if it happens. Takes multiple fill ups to establish a good average.

A few tenths either side of this is the norm.

We have had ours for over 20,000 miles, we do check it based by trip and looks like we average 7MPG and that's with towing the Subaru.
On the interstate we do 63.
Hope this helps.

Had a 08 Bounder 38P pulling a wrangler unlimited
5.5-8.2 MPG
Best was in the mountains.... Worst mpg was in Florida and also a trip a few states west of me with a 40 mph headwind
Typically I would travel 65-70 mph and never use cruise

Was getting around 7.5 and then put in new plugs & wires. Over the past 2500 miles I'm now averaging 8.4.
