Hi. Recently while driving from Denver to Indianapolis on I70, I stopped at a Kansas rest stop to address a broken heat shield (a long one, between the exhaust and frame rail on the driver side). The front weld (of three welds) had failed and while the shield was solid and in place, the cross wind was causing the front of the shield to bang against the frame). While making a temporary fix, I touched the metal fuel lines and was suprised at how hot they were. I couldn't gauge the temp but it was hot enought to make me go ouch! Is this normal? I replaced the fuel filter in January of this year with the correct Workhorse P/N filter. Our 2005 35A Itasca Suncruiser (w/40K miles, owned since new) was running fine at the time. While in the Denver area I did seemed to be laboring in the foot hills of the Rockies pulling our Saturn Aura (our first time there towing so maybe this is normal). Thanks in advance for your thoughts. Regards

Are you sure it was a fuel line? If you have the MotorAid option there are metal lines running along the chassis in that area that carry the coolant to the back of the coach.

i had the same weld break. I drilled a hole and used a 1/4 bolt to repair mine.

Clay L... I guess I'm not sure they were fuel lines, I just assumed (ya.. I know what that makes me). I'll get under it today and check. I'd feel better if it was the MotorAid option. Thanks for the information. Regards

You will have less power in the denver area and the mountains. At higher altitudes the air dencity is lower so you have less horsepower.

Clay L, thanks. I just got under it and followed them back to the water compartment so you are correct. I think I've had to repair just about every shield on the coach over the years. Speed Racer, thank you too. I've taken the coach over the Rockies before (I70, Eisenhower Tunnel) and didn't notice a big reduction in power, although I was not towing. This time I was on 86, south of Limon, heading into Kiowa and Elizabeth and some of those grades are pretty steep AND I was towing the car. While on cruise I slowed down to the point where the cruise kicked off (happened a couple of times). Had difficulty maintaining 40 miles an hour on some grades. Again, the difference was I was towing.

I believe that your speed is normal for towing car. Even my 2400lb Corrola makes a simular difference.
