Gas problem and its impact on engine

Left florida Thursday after 6 months and has performance issues plus code p032 on my 8321 LX Vortec

Changes gas added sea foam and seemed to improve unless climbing hills. Best advice has been I need fuel filter change

I just 100 miles from my pa destination and need more advice

Can driving this 1100 miles affect engine or plugs etc?

When approaching some hills at certain apples I can detect backfire sounds just a couple

I was at 26000 pounds until trailer burn out bearing at Akron Ohio

Now I am 22000 pounds but still have the hesitation when I try to push it otherwise it runs fine 75 to 70 miles per hour 2300 rpm

Thoughts helpful

Sam

Find the burnt spark plug wire. Start checking at #5 & 6

poor performance

I would check #5 & #7 cylinders. If you hear knocking, it is not firing right and could burn out pistons. Get to a Chevy specialist now and use higher octane gas immediately.

Check plugs, wires, timing, fuel filter, etc. Did you put a performance upgrade chip in it? If you did, MUST keep timing/tuning accurate!

Good luck, and keep us informed.

Happy Trails!

Regrets; there isn't a rotor and a cap on this engine.

Darryl, I can not make the same recommendation to begin using higher octane gasoline however the OP's problem does look like a plug wire failure.

My problem was solved by replacing plugs which were real bad at only 42000 miles

I had the same problem and changed fuel pump and no problem since.
But as others have said, it could be just the fuel filter or bad spark wire or plug.
I would try the fuel filter, plug wires or plugs first. Easier then replacing fuel pump. Fuel pump is located in the gas tank and you would have to empty out all gas before starting. Good luck .............

I checked fuel pressure and it was fine at 62 also changed fuel filter but problem was not solved until I changed plugs and wires.

42000 miles but at 7mpg that's a lot of wear and tear on the plugs. About 6000 gallons of gas burned. I weight 26000 pounds withy trailer and car

Buying a replacement fuel filter can be extremely expensive for a GMC 8.1L engine on a Workhorse chassis. On the 2004+ WH the OEM three prong PROPRIETARY fuel filter can cost $65 to over $100 for the filter alone.
To make the cost of fuel filters a lot le$$ in the future I bought an adapter from OEM Engineering Call NOW To Order 1-432-599-0010 allowing me to use the generic fuel filter AC Delco GF652 that costs $6 at Oemy's Web Site - Oemy's Product Catalog.
Be sure your mechanic uses the adapter kit on your first fuel filter change.

The 3 port filter is no longer produced, OEM-Engineering no longer sells the adapter since Workhorse appropriated the design and packaging to replace the 3 port filter.

I'm glad I got mine from you a long time ago. I'm way too old to play the "jump thru the hoops, pay and wait game", I have to do, to get any parts from Workhorse. Even when they were in business, gotta be worse now.
