What's involved in changing a Generac 5.5kw generator from gasoline to propane and how many hours per gallon could you expect?

USCARB should be able to give you some answers to the conversion part of your question.

As far as gallons of propane per hour: You would use about 1.25 gallons of propane for every 1 gallon of gasoline.

It takes about 2 horsepower to produce 1000 watts so your 5.5 has a 11 horsepower engine. My guess is your using about 3 gallons of gasoline per hour depending on how hard you're running it.

DonavonP ...
Thanks for the info and I did bookmark that site...
It does seem though....that I might as well do whatever it takes to drop my main fuel tank and repair whatever problem that is causing my generator to run out of fuel prematurely...between full and 3/4 tank...
I'm pretty sure it's the loss of...or rusted holes in the top of the pickup tube....

Three gallons per hour!!!! Come on now Donavan, you better give your calclator a check up! I have a 5.5, and its more like 1 gal per hour depending on load.

I've gone over my calculations and although it's obvious that I've made a mistake, I'm going to stick to my calculations stubbornly avoiding any rational thought. BUT, thanks for your input.

Probably not operator error, but rather a Chinese made calculator.
