Dale, thanks for the link. I think some of these Subsidary sell-offs (Delphi, GMAC & now Allison) stem from GM's financial difficulties.

Best to you - Glenn

Thanks Dale. I wonder if that will change anything regarding support for the Allison products or possibly offerability to other manufacturers.

I bet that within 5 years the hedge fund Carlyle Group will have stripped all the money it can out of Allison and then dump it.

Who knows perhaps the transmission will be less expensive to compete with other light, medium to heavy duty suppliers like CAT and or ZF.

Allison is a very stable company and they should continue to be profitable for a long time to come.

Here is the Allison Press Release.

The deal isn't closed yet.... Is there perhaps a poison pill or a white knight somewhere in the background waiting for an opportunistic moment??

The irony here is that Carlyle Group controls Grand Vehicle Works whom used to own Workhorse.

I doubt they will sell off Allison as it is still a strong company with a strong reputation. Also, Carlyle tends to hold onto it's "children" from what I've seen. Anything is always possible though. They have a huge portfolio of companies.

Maybe Ford will use the Allison on their 2008 F53s. For 2008 Ford will be increasing the F53 GVWR to 24,000# and 26,000#. Add an Allison to these and it'll be a hard to beat combination.

I'm a GM man. Anything new expected from Workhorse for 2008 in their front engine gas chassis?????

If they just change the gearing and use the same engine that wouldn't be a road I would want to travel.

I don't see the opportunity for any superlatives from the Blue Oval that would persuade Workhorse or new customers to go to Ford except for price alone because they certainly aren't going to do it with technology or brawn.

I spoke about the new cool pack, the redesigned IP and the retirement of the J72 on chassis of 24K and over. The power train combination can't be beat and I don't see any change along those lines. Including the 5/100K limited power train warranty and the 5/200K Allison limited transmission warranty these benefits will certainly make buying a Workhorse the preferred chassis to opt for your new coach.

Ford has done a lot of things lately, greater GVW, increased number of speeds in their transmission, opening up and lowering their engine inside the rail to name a few are attributes that are all just like Workhorse.

Before any other manufacturers are going to get Allisons added to the offerings, Allison will probably still need to honor existing contract terms with existing manufacturers (whom offer their wares) which may or may not have non-compete clauses regarding similar vehicles.

Now that's odd considering you also said, <BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">The irony here is that Carlyle Group controls Grand Vehicle Works whom used to own Workhorse. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I guess if the price is right they will sell you a child.
