Cannon Man;
That is exceptional mileage for any length trip. Were you driving at 55 mph, on flat terrain and was the results with the computer or the old fashioned way? I tow a Saturn SL2, very seldom exceed 60 mph or 2100 RPM and if we're not in the mountains, sometimes we get almost 9 MPG, but now very often. Mostly, it is in the 8 MPG range, with properly inflated tires and nearly empty tanks.

We get approximately 9.0 MPG at 60 MPH without toad. Ours is an Allegro Bay 37DB w/Banks Power Pack and we run Amzoil series 3000 5 W 30 HD Diesel/Gas fully synthetic motor oil. Chuck/Bagman57

My wife just figured up our gas milage for 30k miles 6.0. In July we went through Arkansas and Oklahoma panhandle, the gas was so bad with ethyanol my 8.1 would not run in overdrive. The engine ran smooth just no power. Run her up to 70 and set the cruise or with my foot, it would slowly fall to just under 55 and kick down to the next gear.
I never get below 3/4 of tank so once in a great while I would get so real gas and within 5 minutes she be up and runnning in overdrive until the next stop. I started paying attention at the pump and managed to find real gas or better ethyanol the rest of the trip.
I hear the truck drivers are responsible for the filling of the tanker and mixing the proper amount of ethyanol so you might have E10 or more. I worked in a chemical plant for 17 year and I know exactly how that happens!
I fish 7 months in the winter and where I stay, I see the ethanol is killing the older boats. I see the gas tank being removed and repaired or cleaned on boat after boat.

My 05 Dolphin 5355 gets around 9MPG at 60MPH but falls to around 7MPG if I drive 70MPH. I have 20K miles on it now and I have found that driving 60 to 63Mph give me the best drivability and average milage.

You guys that can get anything over 7 mpg are very lucky as far as I'm concerned. Like "jdsr" I envy you. On our last trip this last July-Aug we put 4,800 miles on our 'o4 Pace Arrow and averaged 6.8 mpg and that's driving 60 to maybe 62 which seems to be the sweetspot on this rig. The best tank was 7.45 and the worst was 5.8 mpg. This is the best we've ever done.

I was getting 9.1 on the flats down here in Florida. I poured a bottle of ZMAX in it and after that I was getting 9.8 to 10 on the same flat road I use as a benchmark. I have used ZMAX in my Mustang for quite some time and It's one product that lives up to it's claims. I drive the MH between 58 and 62 MPH. The Mustang much faster.

Cannon Man,

That's great mileage but I suspect there's were a couple of things working in your favor....

You must have had a good tailwind some of the time and no strong headwinds. A 15 mph headwind while driving at 60 is like driving 75, and as others have said, your mileage will drop to the 6 mph range.

You probably didn't have to putt around in town with lots of stop-n-go lights and traffic. In those conditions you will only get around 5 mpg. This has more to do with your total weight --- what do you weigh in at with your toad?

It's so nice to get anything close to 9 mpg on a particular trip. But then another trip where the conditions don't favor you and then the result can be 6.8 mpg. Over time, you'll probably average out to the 7.5 range.

Happy trails,

Just be glad you drive wher the gas is NOT spiked with 10% ethonol. My mileage droped from 7.5 to 6.5 when I hit WA and OR.
