Great First Big Trip

Took our 2004 Allegro WorkHorse on our first real trip from Connecticut to Niagra Falls to Finger Lakes and onto Cooperstown. Total was 980 miles. Worst MPG was 7.7 and best was 8.5. Average for the trip was 8.15 miles hand calculated. Wished I had reset the scangage for comparison. Was towing a Honda CRV the entire time. Engine temp averaged 202 degrees and never exceeded 209 degrees and that was on a steep hill going into Watkins Glen State Park. Transmission temp averaged 154 degrees and never exceeded 159 degrees. Most of the trip was driven at 62 mph but I found that according to scangage my mpg increased when I held steady at 65 mph. Have to admit I was more comfortable driving at the lower speed. Glad I had the chassis gone through before making the trip.

Congrats on your successful trip. May you have many more.

I love my scangage too. I watch my (TPS) throttle position and my instantaneous MPG. I find that sometimes on flat ground or slightly downhill, I can back off the gas pedal, and increase my instantaneous and not loose speed.

It also tells me when I have a major headwind. My MPG drops as much as 2-3 MPG.
