Hi all,
I'm sure with all the industry insiders on this forum I can get the right answer to this:
To replace the flywheel on a '95 P32 Chassis motorhome, what does "the book" say for labor hours?
Thanks!
Mac

MAC: since your question is in reference to a pre-Workhorse GM produced chassis, and I assume the "book" rate you are seeking would be GM's allowed hours, I've linked your post to the Motor Homes problems/solutions forum in hope of getting you more exposure. ED

Thanks edgray!
The GM allowed hours would be excellent to have.
But if someone has the info on the early Workhorse chassis I imagine it would be very close to the same.

I don't have the hourly flat rate manual for your motorhome Mac, but the labor would be the same as a transmission remove and replace plus about six tenths hour for flywheel removal and replacement. Now would be a good time to inspect rear main bearing seal, and replace if needed.

Thanks Diesel, good thinking about that rear main seal!
Regarding hours, someone on another forum gave me info from AllData for a cargo van with same engine and transmission, it was 3.7 hours. Still, it would be good to have a motorhome reference too.
The service center I'm at estimated 10 hours, which seemed very high to me and prompted me to post the question. I'm going to discuss this with them on Monday before the repairs are done.

Mac ten hours seems pretty high. I was thinking more in the neighborhood of five to six, and that is being pretty liberal. You are right in discussing amount of repair with them. What is the problem, starter ring gear or cracks?

It's cracked. We get a vibration at all speeds. At first I suspected a u-joint, but then I noticed a vibration in the engine at idle too.
I felt that 10 hours was very high, but I wanted to verify my thinking with others. The shop has been very accommodating to us, allowing us to stay in the RV. They also took us in right away with no wait. I'm willing to pay a premium for speed and convenience, but not double or more the realistic hours.
Maybe they were just over-estimating in case they ran into something else, and intend to bill me a lower rate. I'll ask them what's up tomorrow, and I'll let everyone know how it comes out.

Mac,
One service center that I have used confided to me that the rule for RV's is to double what the chassis manual says for flat rate hours. While he can see that for rear pushers he does not abide by that for front engine gas coaches. The 10 hours sounds pretty much to me like the good old double rate just because it is an RV.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I expressed my concern with the original estimate and the final bill was acceptable.
