How do you remove the knock sensor?

Is there an easy way to remove the knock sensor located near the starter motor? Mine is in so tight I'm afraid of doing some very expensive damage to something. At least that's the way it usually goes for me.

If you look at the photos in my post in the "Banks exhaust problems" thread you can see, in the last photo, the sensor located on the other side of the motor. There is what appears to be a sheet metal piece formed over the base of the sensor and all that seems to be happening is I'm destroying that piece.

If anyone has any ideas or tricks on how to remove the sensor I'd sure appreciate it.
