How many cans of R134 does it take to fill the dash AC, if the system was completely empty?
Thanks Johnnie

3 weeks ago my compressor clutch went balistic 2000 miles from home. Had to change the compressor in a parking lot. Without using a vacuum, it took 2-14oz cans. Now that I'm home I am currently vacuuming the sytem and will recharge again using real guages.
BTW, anyone change a Delphi compressor clutch? Any special tools needed?

I never changed the clutch on a Delphi, but when I replaced the A/C clutch on my 1996 Ford F-250, I used a KD Tools 2897 Pulley Remover/Installer. I don't know, though, whether this kit will work for you.
Here's a link to a site (with a lot of pictures) where they removed/installed a clutch on an Delphi.
GM A/C Compressor Clutch & Pulley Bearing Saga
Good Luck!

Just finished charging mine. As stated above, used 2 - 14oz cans then about 1/2 of a 12oz can.
Hope this helps.
To Frank.
Thanks for the info clutch info.

Years ago in a discussion with Christy service mgr of WCC at that time the answer was 2# without the additional condenser that was offered through parts. With the add't condenser the approx amount was 2.2 #'s

scoutmstr, I miss not having him around but I get to bump into him every so once in a while. You might just find him working at a GM display somewhere along the line.

Thanks all for the info, wanted to have enough to start the fill process, DW and I are going to Branson on Thursday, dash air has been blowing hot air latley, thought I would add some, to see if that would help, as it is supposed to be 107 to day, that is the temp, not heat factor, that is way to hot even for Louisiana.
Johnnie
